The Experience

Walk in to light flooding in through large windows and plenty of different places to sit, with chairs and board games on the landing sitting areas or in the cosy drawing room beside the dining room. Breakfast is served inside or out and consists of charcuterie, a cheeseboard, yogurt, breads and pastries, freshly-cooked pancakes, eggs however you want them, homemade jams.

Wander through the manicured garden with its huge plane trees, smooth lawns and clipped topiary to the pool area, where you’ll also find a jacuzzi. Here you can have a massage with a bit of notice. Young, talented chef Alexandre welcomes you for delicious seasonal dinners from Thursday to Monday, by arrangement, with local wines and all the flavours of Provence.

Owner Sylvie lives in a nearby apartment and has electric bikes for you to borrow. Cycle paths lead everywhere including onto the Via Rhôna – along the river. Return to sober yet elegant bedrooms with views.

Reviews

A beautiful, enchanting stay, against the backdrop of a quintessential French country house. We enjoyed cocktails in the garden, surrounded by beautifully lit trees. Breakfasts and dinners in the courtyard were magical and authentic -- the owners and staff were absolutely wonderful and took great care of us. The pool was a perfect sun trap and we still think about the beautiful cheese and tomato salad delivered to us, poolside. Boulbon is a hidden gem -- a quiet and authentic refuge and an ideal base for day trips to the busier Gordes, Les Baux and Post du Gard. We'll be back!

My new favourite hotel! The garden is stunning and peaceful, inviting you to contemplate, and we made full use of the heated pool and hot tub (our little boy loved it!). Dinner, cooked by young new chef Alexandre Loisel, was absolutely exquisite and extremely good value. The wine list was also superb. Our suite was very comfortable, we slept very soundly. We were made very welcome by the owner and the staff and only wish we could have stayed longer. Boulbon is a gem of a village, and we really enjoyed our game of petanque on the square with a fresh beer from Cafe du Commerce. A perfect break!

Agnes, Dijon, France

When Sylvie told me about the picturesque village square and cafe next door, where tourists and locals, pastis in hand, join to play an evening game of Petanque under the giant plane trees, I wanted more than ever to stay in this beautiful hotel. This is secret Provence, a rare and very special address indeed!

Location

The neighbourhood

The village has long views over the hills and no large roads rushing through it, so is quiet and safe to walk around. You could have a walking holiday without need of a car but there are some stunning villages to visit within a half hour drive, including Uzès and Arles. Enjoy vineyards, abbeys and châteaux, Roman architecture and swimming in the Gard river.

Introducing

Sylvie Faurel & Stéphane Coisne

Sylvie is from this area, her mother is Greek and she met her husband, Stéphane, when she worked in the North of France. They have always holidayed here in Boulbon and one day when she heard this hotel was for sale she decided to snap it up. They have good knowledge of the local area so do ask for recommendations about where to eat and what to visit.
