The Experience
This remarkably restored 14th-century barn is set just outside the hilltop gem of Simiane la Rotonde, once the regional capital of lavender, and is surrounded by vast purple fields and olive groves.
There’s a sense of peace and space, with rooms gathered around a central terrace filled with geraniums, and you have a small but lovely walled garden to yourselves. Josiane, kind and intelligent, lives in the priory next door – you’re welcome to swim in the large pool in her garden.
A bakery, bar and restaurant are just down the street, and there are a few more shops in the village. The Abbaye de Valsaintes, four km outside the village, has a beautiful rose garden and restored church, and you can drive to Banon or Apt in less than 15 minutes for more shops, restaurants and typical Provençal markets.

It's hard to decide what makes this place so special: the highly successful, authentic and solid restoration of an old barn into a wonderfully relaxing place for a vacation or the very warm welcome and obviously good but well tempered taste of the delightful owner who treats her guests as well as her flourishing fig trees. Just imagine the family home and mother or sister of your dreams!

Les Granges is a gem of a property. The barn is wonderfully renovated, with comfortable bedrooms, a beautiful sun terrace and a fantastic kitchen. As we were staying with our baby, we also made good use of the excellent utility room! The location at the foot of Simiane was ideal and we spent our days popping out to the (excellent) local bakery and epicerie, visiting villages in nearby Luberon and various Provencal markets, and swimming in the pool. Josiane was wonderful and warm, and full of advice for what to do in the local area and beyond. We hope to come and stay again

A beautiful comfortable property that feels like a real home, spacious, welcoming and well équipt with everything one could possibly need. The fresh water swimming pool is fantastic, one of the best we've seen in a private home. We ate well in nearby Banon and visited local markets in Forcalquier and Sault. The weather end May was perfect with no Mosquitos, thanks apparently to the giant carp in a large ornamental pond in Josiane's garden, which is next to the property. We would love to return.

A dream of a Gite in a small hilltop village. Only steps from the door lies The Capeau Rouger Restaurant, and the Boulangerie/coffee shop where visiters and locals sit with their coffee and pain raison in the morning sunshine. The star of the stay was Josiane the gentile lady owner, who was a superb hostess, plus the housekeeper who came in to ensure everything was clean and tidy. Must not forget the fabulous spring water pool set in a private part of the garden..and the hot roof terrace..and I could go on it's a perfect holiday location.

A beautiful gite in this tiny hill village in Provence overlooking lavender fields. The gite is lovingly looked after by Josianne and Marie Claude and has everything you need. The swimming pool is spring water and very clean in the private garden belonging to Josianne who couldn't be more helpful about the area generally. Restaurants and local events are well documented. The car can be garaged within the barn itself. 3 good sized double bedrooms and a sunny roof terrace to relax on. Close to a Boulangerie and Epicerie. Tastefully furnished and decorated. Well stocked kitchen.

The physical details are already recorded - the gite is very spacious and full of character. What isn't in the details is just how comprehensively equipped it is. Crockery, cutlery, glassware, saucepans, baking sheets/tins, sharp knives - everything you might have at home, and more. A huge selection of books, parlour games and reference material is there. The pool is delightful and secluded, in the chateau's walled garden next door, with various games (table football, table tennis and a trampoline) for children. Host Josiane is charming and eager to please, nothing is too much trouble. Go there

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The barn has been sympathetically restored with attention to detail and is very well equipped, with free wifi and regular cleaning included in the price. The owner Josianne was charming and had lots of good advice about walks, restaurants etc. The pool in her lovely garden is available for use, along with various games. The village is full of character and has a good grocer and fantastic bakery. (Pizza on Saturday nights!) Set in a beautiful part of the Luberon with lots to see and do within easy reach this was a great find. Highly recommended.

Location
The neighbourhood
Simiane la Rotonde is dominated by a medieval castle with a magnificent rotunda that hosts an early music festival in the summer. Wander through the narrow winding cobbled streets and discover a 16th-century church and a covered marketplace with incredible views over the surrounding countryside.
Local points of interest from Josiane Tamburini
- Simiane la Rotonde is a small "city of character". It's built on a hill and crowned by a 12th century castle recently .restored. In the delightful "Rotonde", a famous Festival of ancient music takes place every year in august .
- From Simiane it's an easy drive to explore the three mountains: Luberon, Lure, Ventoux and all the pretty villages built at their foot: Lourmarin, Bonnieux Lacoste Gordes Roussillon, Montbrun, Brantes...Many paths if you like walking or cycling!
- All around the year you will find picturesque "provençal" markets in the nearby little towns: Apt, Forcalquier, Sault, Banon...More enjoyable than supermarkets!
- In Banon, 9km, a large book-shop -among the largest in France- is open everyday : "Le Bleuet". What e pleasure to wander in it! Some books in english are available. And for more terrestrial food "Le Chapeau Rouge", is only 100m from the barn!
- If you don't mind longer drives, from Simiane you can easely reach Aix en Provence or Avignon, two historical towns well known for their monuments and their charms.
- Last but not least, the village is surrounded by lavender fields, in full blossom from mid-june to mid-july. Beautiful colors and delicate perfumes all around! An aromatherapy center takes place in the castle.

Introducing
Josiane Tamburini
Originally from Sainte Tulle, Josiane moved to Simiane in the 1990s, and opened up the guest house in 1998 to fulfill a long-held dream: to welcome travellers to her village and help them discover the Haute Provence, and to make great friendships.
It's hard to do justice to our enchanting stay in Les Granges, a beautifully converted barn with a charming terrace overlooking Josiane's garden. Les Granges is perfectly cared for with beautiful furniture and furnishings without feeling at all precious. The house is located quietly at the edge of the lovely village and a short stroll from a classic boulangerie. However what was most memorable was Josiane's warm and gracious attention from our first email contact, on our arrival and throughout our stay. She could not have been kinder.
