The Experience

The village sits on the side of a hill in fields and woods with wide views over rugged gorges and wooded slopes. One of the houses has a vast living room, another a library. There’s a big games room, a lovely outdoor pool and an open-sided tent for meals and events, plus a summer kitchen with a shady patio and enormous 32-seater marble table. This is a grand spot for a party with family and friends.

Breakfast is provided every morning: fresh breads, croissants and pastries are brought daily from the nearby village and jams, honey, muesli, yogurt and fresh fruit is served at a large table in the winter kitchen. Some of the houses do have small kitchens or mini fridges but it’s highly recommended to have a cook who will shop and prepare meals for an extra charge.

Hike along many beautiful trails, the best of which are through the Gorges d’Oppedette, a five-minute drive. There’s a restaurant in Viens, a 12-minute drive and the nearest village shop is in Céreste, 20 minutes.

You should know

  • Dogs are by arrangement only - there are no fences, gates or boundaries so a discussion must be had
  • The houses are old stone buildings with lots of uneven floors and steps – most of the stairs have no handrails
  • This is really remote, you can't just nip anywhere, so make sure you're organised about food before you arrive unless you're hiring a cook

Reviews

A private hilltop hamlet all to yourself, how special. This centuries-old Provençal village is ideal for family get-togethers, retreats, weddings and other events where up to 24 people come together. Isolated hilltop location with stunning views. Blissfully quiet. Breakfasts are provided but highly recommend having a cook for all meals. A discrete team of three is there for all your needs.

Location

The neighbourhood

Set off on walks through sublime lavender fields in June and July. Further afield you can hire bikes in Apt (30km), hop on a horse in Céreste (18km), sail away in a hot air balloon from Roussillon (40km), play tennis in Reillanne and paraglide from Banon (18km). There are daily markets in different villages within a half-hour drive and a winery – Les Davids, who can deliver.

Local points of interest from Le Grand Banc

  • You can walk for an hour from the hamlet and likely not meet another person. The paths through the oak woods and lavender fields are literally on your doorstep.
  • Cycling around the region is delightful as the roads don't allow for heavy or fast traffic. This makes cycling for groups a safe and enjoyable experience.
  • World famous photographers have chosen Le Grand Banc for their photoshoots due to its charm and style.
  • We are situated in The Natural Regional Park of Luberon recognised as a UNESCO Geopark since 2015. There are over 450 vineyards spread over the 185,000 hectares of the park. An outstanding choice of wine-tasting opportunities for gourmets.
  • We are organised to produce events as well as holidays - this enables us to help source a cook and additional help if desired to make stays at Le Grand Banc stress-free.
  • Surrounded by charming Provencal villages lived in by families that have been there for hundreds of years. Stone houses on cobbled streets in pedestrianised villages to enable you to wander at will and the kids to run free.
