The Experience

This is the kind of house that even on a dull day has plenty of space and light. Walk straight into a hallway with lovely floor tiles and a curved wooden staircase, then an elegant, comfortable living room with open fire, a big kitchen (with a welcome hamper) and dining room for convivial cooking and eating. Lofty windows illuminate some truly beautiful furniture and pictures. Patrice has chosen carefully and with exquisite taste.

Bedrooms are on the first floor, all different but with gorgeous views – one across the sunflower fields in summer. Beds have thick mattresses and toppers, colours are warm and muted, bathrooms (one up, one down) have stone tiles and are immaculate. In summer you’ll be cooling in the pool, or eating in the covered dining area under fairy lights or taking a picnic to the little orchard.

You can walk to the village shop for fresh bread and essentials, or the little market town of Aigre is only a short drive and has an excellent weekly market full of farm produce.

An ideal stay for our family of 4, including our 10 & 12 year-old kids. The house feels grand whilst also cosy and comfy & the extensive grounds and pool are ideal for energetic kids! Activities: A 5km run or drive for a picnic at Gallo-Roman amphitheatre at Les Bouchauds, then the museum. Daytrip to the lovely coastal resort of La Palmyre – we hired bodyboards at Cote Sauvage Beach, la Tremblade. Great fun! Kayaking the Charante River courtesy of Base Nautique du Bain des Dames. A stunning location with an unexpected swimming beach, play areas and restaurant. We could've stayed all day!

What a stately, yet charming, getaway. The living area was perfect, complete with comfortable furnishings, large bedrooms, a fireplace, and a well-equipped kitchen. The gated grounds were expansive and included a lovely patio, a covered outdoor dining area, and pool. The rental also included reliable Wi-Fi, bicycles for exploring the countryside, as well as an honor bar (what a great idea!) Overall, this place was a perfect retreat that exceeded all expectations and I highly recommend it for anyone looking to experience the beauty and tranquillity of rural France. We can’t wait to return.

It's a lovely house with everything you need plus some thoughtful touches - fresh flowers, a complimentary baguette on order at the shop for your first breakfast and a bag of treats to welcome you. A lovely, private courtyard with choice of seating areas and a good sized pool. The owners are super helpful without being intrusive. Highly recommended.

Lucy, Bethersden

A lovely well presented property and well equipped. Beautiful area with plenty locally to do or simply a house to just stay and relax in. Owners - great communication and nothing is too much problem. Thank you.

10/10⭐️ amazing property and such lovely hosts. Patrice and Mike have thought of everything to ensure you have the perfect stay. Lovely home with everything you could need provided. We couldn’t fault it.

The house location was excellent for our family holiday. Local immediate area has lovely walks / runs / cycles allowing us to explore. The house and grounds are wonderful and gave everyone lots of space to relax. A well organised kitchen and BBQ + outdoor garden furniture was very welcome as we preferred to shop in local markets and cook. Communication was excellent with Patrice with check-in / out very easy and low stress. Highly recommend.

Richard, Faringdon

What a beautiful home, fantastic kitchen, large bedrooms and comfortable beds. The garden and pool area is stunning, we did manage one swim but the weather was a little fresh. The house is located in a great area for visiting all the Charente has to offer. The communication from the owners was excellent, nothing was ever a problem. We would highly recommend especially to a family with all the lovely spaces inside and outside.

Had the most magnificent return visit to Le Petit Bosquet. Having previously visited in the autumn of 2021, it was just as we remembered, beautifully appointed and a true turn-key holiday experience. The lovely owner provides up to date information with suggestions for visits and meals out as well a "top tip" for a local patisserie which oozes charm and fantastic cakes and goodies. It's an ideal launching pad for exploring Cognac, Bordeaux and beyond. However, our favourite days were spent at home, at the pool with dinners enjoyed outside under the stars. Can't wait to return.

Many delights of this lovely comfortable house, garden & location, We ate outside every night. The kitchen is well stocked with all the tools one could need. Having a stocked bar was nice; we made sure to re-supply & add some other choices. The bedrooms & bathrooms provided excellent comfort. We all wanted to take the grand staircase home with us. Walked the village every night & sometimes up to the cemetery. Loved the folks at the épicerie & picking up our crossiant & baguette every morning. if you have never been to this region, many pleasures await you…not the least meeting Patrice!

A gorgeous, magical slice of heaven where time stands still and you can slip away and become part of the beautiful countryside lifestyle. The lovely furnishings and comfortable well appointed rooms are right out of my favorite shelter magazines. Everything to cook meals and make yourself at home was thoughtfully available. Can’t wait to return to see even more of the beautiful region. Highly recommend.

Le Petit Bosquet offers the perfect balance between modern conveniences and the interior charm of a French country house! masterfully appointed, the home reflects the spirit and charm of the Charante with a stylish but not stuffy interior design. Genac is ideally situated between the sophistication of Cognac and the casual atmosphere of the Atlantic coast. Angouleme which is a 25 minute drive offers a TGV stop and a two hour train ride to Paris. The best of all worlds. Most seductive is the morning sounds of birds waking up and their serenade to the local church bells. C’est magnifique!!!

Le Petit Bosquet is an extremely pleasant, wonderful residence, with a very handsome kitchen, a great diner room and nice decorated chambers in a peacefull village. With a beautiful garden, courtyard and swimming pool very good located all day long in the sun, a place you want to go back, anytime , we have there a holiday to remember many thanks to the very friendly owners , highly recommended Kind regards, Geert and Anne.

Located in the middle of the countryside between Cognac and Angouleme, this house is rustic and authentic, but also sophisticated. Looking for a peaceful stay, where to have great time with family and disconnect from daily stress, we could enjoy the large volumes of the mansion, and we appreciated all comfort of included private services. Patrice has been very helpful, providing all information and answering questions. We found there what we were looking for : family time out of daily rush, kind of space and time bubble. We will miss this small Paradise.

Claude, Argenteuil

We loved this beautiful place. It is a stately home with very big rooms and lovely decorated and very cozy. Nice comfortable beds and bathrooms. There are many seats in the large walled garden. A nice swimming pool hidden in the garden. A small shop is within walking distance where we bought our fresh bread every morning. Angouleme, Cognac, canoeing all quite near from the house. Very easy communication with Patrice and with extensive information about a lot of restaurants and things to do in the neighbourhood available in the house.

I loved this place, it's so special - from the beautifully French hallways with wood panelled walls to the wonderful marrying of modern and antique - I think a stay here would be thoroughly restorative. It's peaceful and the pool area is stunning. Every added extra has been thought of by lovely Patrice. You'll feel like you've stayed in a mini château but with all the home comforts of a farmhouse.

Katie, Sawday's Inspector

This is the most beautiful House. Such a joy to stay here. It is everyone's dream vacation spot. Not only a beautiful home but in a perfect location-right in the heart of this magical part of France. Easy drive to local historical sights, markets, canoeing along the river, beach or shopping -what more could you want? Local little shop -within walking distance- had amazing fresh croissants and bread for breakfast and the supermarket was close enough to visit daily. The owners of the home were very helpful and communicative. I would throughly recommend this rental, I cannot wait to return!

Location

The neighbourhood

You're just 20 minutes from Angoulême for narrow streets, interesting shops and good restaurants - peer over the ramparts for magnificent views of the Charente valley. Cognac is 25 minutes in the opposite direction, through lush farmland and vineyards. Take a tour of a distillery or explore the ancient cobbled streets of the old town. You're surrounded by many vineyards for wine tastings.

Local points of interest from Patrice Bevans

  • The Charente river winds its way through the countryside a short bike ride or a drive away...kayaking and canoeing awaits under a green leafy canopy to explore the charming riverside villages- the perfect thing on a hot summer afternoon
  • The grand Rouillac "27 Market" takes over the entire town every month on the 27th & features everything from farm animals to fresh produce & everything in between. Don't miss out on this classic country market. but go early...its a wildly popular day out!
  • Surrounded by vines, Le Petit Bosquet is less than 5 minutes away to producers of Cognac & the regional favourite Pineau des Charentes. Let us introduce you to our neighbouring distillers who offer personal tours & tastings of their very special Spirits.
  • For the culture vultures, the magnificent Roman Amphitheater at Les Bouchauds is set in a natural bowl surrounded by lush country greenery and just a hop, skip and a jump from Le Petit Bosquet.
  • The buzzing and trendy city of Angouleme is just 20 mins away and offers an eclectic mix for the foodies in your family. Soak up a little cafe culture, museum hop and shop the boutiques in this pretty hill-top town.
  • A drive through the vines takes you to Cognac and Jarnac where you can visit the premiere Cognac makers & tour their prestigious river-side facilities, with a very worth-while detour at the well-presented Museum of Cognac. Cheers to that!
