The Experience
Renovated with great care by Olivier and Christophe, this three-storey maison is filled with special touches; furniture old and new, family heirlooms, an open fire, even a Jacuzzi and sauna. Spacious bedrooms have garden views and are thoughtfully decorated with interesting wallpaper and rugs; sparkling en suites are equally snazzy. Start your day with a breakfast of fresh pastries, cakes and jams – in the dining room or outside on the decking – before heading out to visit a nearby chateau or seaside town. Stroll to a nearby restaurant for dinner, or ask charming Olivier – a former chef – to cook you something special.

We very much enjoyed our two night break at La Tillaie. Christophe and Olivier both speak excellent English and were charming and gracious hosts who went out of their way to make our stay memorable. The entire house is decorated with impeccable taste. We dined with our hosts on both evenings and the food and the company were excellent. We would certainly return and, hopefully, stay longer next time.

We really enjoyed our little break; one night away from the smallholding! Olivier was so welcoming and helpful; warm and genuine. The room and facilities were excellent; I had a lovely relaxing bath at bedtime and the breakfast was good too. We enjoyed dinner at a traditional french restaurant, which was within walking distance, as we forgot to book at La Tillaie! We will certainly be recommending La Tillaie to our guests at 'Le Clos des Jardins'

Local points of interest from Olivier Rotensztajn
- Our village is ideally located between the Saintonge and Pays d'Aunis, between sea and countryside, nature and culture. Depending on your interests, you can visit historical monuments, you can make long walks on the beaches or in the countryside.
- According to legend, a young engineer called to canalize a small river, periodically overflowing, the Arnoult fell in love, He built his house on his shore and lived happily with his wife .... We do not know if This legend is true, but is it so important?
- Our house is called "La Tillaie" because of the two magnificent lime trees that overlook the courtyard. They were probably planted by the famous engineer and his wife. If that's not the case, I can not help thinking about them when I look at them.
- I love the town of Saintes, a small town with a glorious past! It is pleasant to stroll there, to be surprised at the inadequacy of certain architectures and to admire the simple grace of the masterpieces of Romanesque art, such as the Abbey of the Ladies.
- The Hermione is the exact replica of the Frigate on which La Fayette crossed the Atlantic in 1780. Enthusiasts took 20 years to make it. Today, one can see the in its basin of refit at the naval arsenal of Rochefort.
- Take your car and go around the villages "stones and water" you will discover the architecture, the litorral and the streams of the region. Beautiful small authentic villages, magnificent panoramas at the doors of the Tillaie.

We stayed two nights at La Tillaie and wished we would have stayed longer. Our room was beautiful, comfortable and large (huge) with a living area as well. Great bathroom fixtures, large bathtub, great shower and twin sinks! Beautiful garden, lovely views and superb hosts who went above and beyond in making our visit enjoyable. Olivier, his partner Christophe and his mother Michelle are lovely people and this review would be much longer if space allowed. Stay here and you will be happy you did - say hi to them for us. We highly recommend this establishment - you will love this choice!
