The Experience

The smell of honeysuckle as you swim in the pool, a glimpse through the orchard to the vineyards beyond, a spin in the château-dotted countryside in a gleaming Morgan 4/4. What more? A welcome basket of homemade jam and Bordeaux, sweeping gardens with badminton and boules, fresh baguette deliveries. And friendly British owners who welcome families, can make breakfast and special dinners, and offer classic car tours. For this quiet hamlet – near Cognac, La Rochelle, the Atlantic beaches – sits in inspiring scenery. These two holiday cottages, set within the grounds of a former Cognac Domaine, are all very homely and British behind their stone walls and sky-blue shutters: checked fabrics, pine furniture, excellent kitchens, good reading lamps, books, games, DVDs. Plump down in Rose Cottage on leather sofas under a cathedral ceiling; sleep beneath beams on super comfortable beds. Drift out to your wisteria-covered terrace – overlooking the lily pond on one side, opening to your own walled garden on the other – then take a dip in that heated pool, shared by both cottages. Or do as the cats do and stretch out for a snooze.

Reviews

We loved our stay - the cottage is very well equipped, including all the essentials, and great garden furniture/sun shade and bbq. Lyn and Graham are brilliant hosts, attentive when necessary, but otherwise leaving you to make your own way, helping you with with a folder crammed with places to see and things to do including route maps . The Pool is fantastic, and the private space around the building makes for a very relaxing stay, and also with secure parking. The welcome meal that Lyn offers on arrival was brilliant. We all enjoyed our stay immensely, very happy to recommend to others.

Richard, Tunbridge Wells

We had a very relaxing week at Rose Cottage as a family of five. We loved the beautiful gardens and the swimming pool surrounded by fruit trees. The surrounding countryside is quiet, open and flat - good for bicycling with the kids. Lyn and Graham were very welcoming and we enjoyed Lyn’s cooking on the first evening very much. Thank you for a lovely holiday.

Katherine, Bristol

We had a wonderful stay in Rose Cottage for the Circuit des Remparts. Many thanks to Lyn & Graham for all their wonderful organisation & hospitality in making this a very special trip.

Cheryl & Steve, Lymington

We very much enjoyed our stay at Rose Cottage. The cottage itself is welcoming, nicely furnished and well stocked with a lovely outdoor eating area. In the heat we had this year it was wonderful to be able to cool off in the pool. Lyn and Graham were lovely and friendly hosts and gave us plenty of tips and recommendations. Would definitely recommend!

Sarah, Mheer

We loved our stay at Rose Cottage which was beautiful. The cottage is extremely well equipped and the swimming pool is a lovely asset, set in a large gated garden for safety. The hosts were so welcoming and made our stay extra special. We will definitely be back!

Fiona, London

A wonderful escape from it all. Rose Cottage is a characterful place and Lyn and Graham really helped to make our stay with tips for things to do (and delicious apricot jam). We loved the chance to eat all meals outside and the stunning pool was a great spot to relax after days exploring the Cognac area. The Charente is not an area massively frequented by tourists and we were able to enjoy days out in Cognac (excellent tour of the castle and Baron Otard cognac House), Rochefort (surprisingly interesting rope factory), Jarnac (electric biking, kayaking and beautiful golf course) and Saintes.

Giles, Bath

Had a fabulous week at rose cottage , Lynn & Graham made us feel very welcome, cottage was clean & well equipped with all you need for your stay . Plenty of fresh towels . Lovely garden areas & pool was fabulous . Would definitely recommend.

Sandy, Benflett

Lyn and Graham were extremely welcoming and helpful hosts - and we had a fun ride in the Morgan! The cottage was very well equipped in pretty grounds - we particularly enjoyed relaxing by the sparkling pool. We also enjoyed meals out in Cognac (20 mins drive away), drove to Royan/St Georges de Didonne (60 mins drive) and particularly loved Ile de Re (1.5hr drive).

Mrs, Surrey

We recently returned from a two week holiday, staying in Rose Cottage. We cannot recommend the accommodation highly enough. Both Rose and Manor Cottages are set in the most picturesque gardens and share a lovely outdoor pool and sun area. Rose Cottage proved to be a very comfortable and well equipped place to stay. From the décor to the quality of the sheets and towels, everything is done to the highest standards. There is SO much to do in this area of South West France - you are spoilt for choice. We would return to La Rose des Vents in a heartbeat!

Claire, North Queensferry, Fife

Our stay was absolutely fantastic. The cottage was immaculate and the swimming pool a great place to chill during the heatwave that we had. The Cognac area has some very scenic drives in our Morgan, and Lyn and Graham were able to advise us on where to visit.

AnDREW, CHELTENHAM

Stayed at Rose Cottage for the Rallye des Charentes which I would highly recommend. Lyn and Graham Peek made us very welcome and id everything possible to make our week memorable.

Gerard, Weybridge

We went over to France for the Circuit des Remparts classic car racing event in Angouleme and stayed at La Rose Des Vents for a week. Lyn and Graeme are great car enthusiasts and took care off all arrangements as well as organising trips to Cognac houses as a part of our package. We had a great time, organisation was excellent, the cottage was well appointed, gardens and the pool are really lovely and all very private. Lyn and Graeme could not have been more helpful and their knowledge of the area having lived there a while was really helpful. We had a great time.

Paul, Chipstead

We had a fantastic time at this idyllic hideaway, lots of lazy days spent by the heated pool, great day trips to the nearby towns and beautiful beaches, and the fantastic bonus of a ride in one of the Morgans through the surrounding countryside and vineyards. Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts Lynne and Graham who were always on hand with restaurant recommendations or ideas for nearby days out when the weather wasn't ideal. Our two boys had plenty of room to explore and we had plenty of time to relax, the perfect family holiday!

Ian, London

We had a truly relaxing stay at Rose Cottage with our two children aged three and five. The Peek's have created a French country idyll and their gardens and swimming pool are stunning. Having helpful hosts on the grounds who spoke English and could recommend places of interest for our one week holiday was invaluable. There is so much to do for children, a car is vital though. The icing on the cake was the ride in the open-top Morgan - one fantastic memory none of us will ever forget. Highly recommended for families of all ages and/or couples who want a quiet getaway.

Rosie

We have just returned from our third holiday in this beautiful cottage. The garden and pool area is so relaxing and the cottage itself has everything you need to enjoy your holiday. Everything is spotless and of good quality. A trip out in the Morgan is the "icing on the cake" for our family. The surrounding area has lots of interest, and Cognac is a fascinating place to explore. We are looking forward to spending another holiday here in the future.

Carol

We had a lovely time in Rose Cottage. The welcome and accommodation exceeded our expectations. The breakfast trays were well presented and the meals and accommodation excellent. The attention to detail to ensure that we enjoyed our stay was excellent throughout and we would most certainly repeat our holiday there.

R

What a wonderful retreat for us, so quiet and Lyn and Graham were fantastic, very helpful and Rose Cottage was a delight, everything we could wish for I would love to return. Well done you two!

Chaplin

Our hosts were very welcoming, informative and easily accessible. The cottage was spotless with clean crisp sheets and lots of fluffy towels. Large peaceful secluded garden with our own private area, and of course the lovely, shared heated swimming pool. The kitchen was well stocked with good quality appliances and all the basic foods. The open plan staircase could be difficult with young children. A good base for easy driving to many places of interest - or just chill out in the garden. A wonderful cottage, we would definately go again

Ian

A real gem of a cottage with wonderful hosts for whom nothing was too much trouble. The cottage facilities were excellent and spotlessly clean and much time was spent relaxing around the lovely heated pool. There was lots to see and do in the area including La Rochelle, Royan, the beautiful Ile de Re and of course Cognac is right on the door step. A highlight to the stay was a trip around the vineyards in the owners Morgans. A truly memorable holiday and we look forward to returning again very soon.

Fiona

Highly recommend this beautifully presented, welcoming Cottage. Accommodation had a lovely French feel and had all the equipment and facilities that you need home from home! Lyn and Graham made us very welcome and suggested local events for us to visit in the local area. To get to the pool you pass through a Secret Garden Door; the pool is an excellent size with plently of furniture.......and heated too; set in the surroundings of fruit trees. Our two children ages 10 & 12 had a brilliant time and we would highly recommend it for families as well as couples.
