The Experience

Deep in the glorious countryside of the Charente-Maritime lie seven woody acres steeped in history and beauty. The owners’ early 18th-century château takes central stage, joined by other buildings scattered about the grounds: a tower gatehouse, pigeonnier and stone orangerie all add to the charm. Owners Seb and Lucy swapped city life for this much-loved domaine and have masterminded an immaculate restoration; now Le Logis (the gardien’s lodge) and La Maison (the farmhouse) shine. Single-storey La Maison is big enough to sleep six in two doubles and a twin, and you can also take Le Logis if there are four more of you. Kitted out in country-boutique style, find an open-plan kitchen-diner and chic bathrooms (one with a rolltop tub) too. Outside, enjoy the secluded, sunny walled garden and the 10m x 5m pool. Head off for the sandy beaches of the Atlantic coast in under an hour’s drive; island hop between Ré and Oléron; explore the dreamy canals of the Marais Poitevin (35km).

We had a fabulous week at Domaine de la Prise. We booked the Logis de la Prise and friends booked la Maison de la Ferme with the pool. It made for a fabulous, two family get away as we shared the pool and the children enjoyed the independence of trotting between the two properties. All beautifully and safely situated in the grounds of Chateau de La Prise. The property was in excellent order, all clean and new feeling and had everything you needed as well as a wonderful welcome basket of goodies. I would not hesitate in reccomending the property to friends & family. Thank you Lucy & Seb!

We stayed a week in Maison de la Ferme, which is beautifully decorated and has one of the best kitchens we have ever had in a holiday rental. British TV was very popular with the kids, allowing them to relax in the evening after energetic days in the fabulous pool. Enormously peaceful, yet a lovely base for exploring the Marais Poitevin and La Rochelle. Lucy and Seb left a welcome pack of local goodies and loads of information about the local area. Another flawless Sawdays stay.

Local points of interest from Lucy Hepplewhite

We are rural, but only a short drive to our local boulangerie, market, bars and restaurants. We benefit from access to all the amenities but also have the absolute peace and tranquility provided by the french countryside.
We are very fortunate to offer our guests complete privacy as the properties are totally separate from the main house and designed to ensure you are truly able to 'get away from it all' without the worry of neighbours or other guests.
We are approximately 45 minutes from La Rochelle and a number or other coastal towns such as Fouras and the popular Chatelaillon Plage. A little further away are the islands of Ré and Oleron, both beautiful, as are our nearest towns of Niort and Surgères.
With our own additions of a full size croquet lawn, young orchard, rose garden and lots of other planting the Logis is a wonderful place to spend the summer.
Our neighbouring land and buildings is where you will find la Maison. The farmhouse sits on another 3 acres surrounded by lots of traditional old outbuildings, a courtyard, lawns, fruit trees, raised beds, large gateposts and huge open sided barn or préau.
Our aim has always been to provide charming, luxury and private self-catering accommodation for guests, providing them with a great place to stay whilst they explore everything this wonderful region has to offer.
