The Experience

A lovely space for families to gather for a proper seaside holiday. Buy fresh oysters, crab, mussels direct from the producers or eat them at one of the many pop-up restaurants during the summer. Visit cool beach bars – sometimes they have live music – or cycle along the peaceful lanes (you’ll find bikes to borrow) into Gouville, 3kms, for your morning croissants and baguette. Visit the market on a Friday and bring back your spoils to the big kitchen – a great place to cook with room for everyone to help.

Bedrooms (one downstairs with a door to the garden and pool) are large and light with exposed stone walls or vibrant wallpaper, snazzy bathrooms, colourful art and lovely views. On rainy days there’s a roaring wood-burner in the living area and plenty of indoor games plus a video projector for movies – there’s a separate games room too.

Float in the big pool, cook on the barbecue, sample some local wines or cider. Breathe out.

Reviews

Just returned from an amazing 3 generation holiday (despite weather being unkind) The gite is extremely comfortable and well fitted out.The decor is eclectic which really adds to the character. The pool is brilliant and there’s far more outside space than photos suggest. With guidance from owner, James, we made the most of the excellent local restaurants (seafood to die for) and beaches and were overwhelmed with how friendly and welcoming the locals were. I fear I should keep quiet about this little gem but that would be unfair to James who puts his heart into providing a wonderful experience.

Shirley, Sussex

An exceptional place to stay, both in terms of location, peace and rest. The gite had every amenity one could need, and is full of character. It exceeded all our expectations and James was a wonderful host. It is a marvellous location from which to explore the Normandy Coastlne, with the pleasure of knowing that you will always return to this beautiful sanctuary. One of the best holidays in years.

Danny and Anthea, London

An Exceptional Family Retreat - Our family recently stayed at James' charming gite in Gouville Sur Mer, France, and it exceeded all our expectations. The well-appointed gite was the best equipped we've ever experienced while the heated pool and hot tub provided endless fun and relaxation. James was an exceptional host, striking the perfect balance between availability and privacy. The gite's location allowed for easy exploration of Normandy's historical attractions, making it an ideal retreat. Overall, it was an unforgettable holiday. Very highly recommended for an extraordinary getaway.

John, Brockenhurst, Hampshire UK

A great place for a small group: Cool modern interiors, smart tech, lots of space, pool and hot-tub. James, the owner, is very welcoming and knowledgeable.

Location

The neighbourhood

It's quiet in the hamlet and the lanes are very good for walking and cycling. Gouville has everything you need: two boulangeries (apparently you opt for the one with the queue, Boa the pop-up bar, Les Dunes restaurant and The Tandem shack for pizzas. Here there are miles of sandy beaches for watery fun and sports. Antique hunters will adore La Clé des Temps where the prices come down until sold.

Local points of interest from James Mayhew

  • Situated halfway down the Normandy peninsular on the west coast and a five minute drive from the sea, La Reverie is Ideally located to take advantage of all this part of France has to offer: great beaches, great food and a huge choice of cultural outings.
  • Officially Awarded 5* La Reverie is fully equipped and beautifully appointed, you'll find all the comforts of home, and more. With Freesat TV, a Hot tub, heated pool, BBQ, and a kitchen with an integrated coffee machine, boiling water tap and induction hob
  • When you've relaxed in the pool or the spa, and fancy an outing, Mont Saint Michel, The Bayeux Tapestry, the Normandy landing beaches and the Christian Dior museum in Granville are all within easy reach. There's masses for children to do as well.
  • If you like eating out, choose from the Michelin starred, to eating Moules Frites with your feet in the sand. 'La Cale' is a must. Alternatively head to Lombardie in Coutainville and pick up one of their freshly prepared meals to bring back 'home'.
  • The heated pool is protected by a hard electric cover to keep our younger guests safe and parents stress free. The pool is close to the house, so the children are never out of sight. Watch the sun go down from La Reverie's terrace or one of the beach bars.
  • If you need more space for your holiday, do have a look at my other property, La Brocanterie, sleeps up to 10 also on Sawdays!

Introducing

James Mayhew

James is friendly and welcoming. He's been living in Normandy for very many years and has lots of in-depth regional knowledge. He worked in finance, then became an antiques dealer and now concentrates on running the gites and making sure you have the best time.
