The Experience

Drive through the narrow arch into the vast courtyard and history leaps out to grab you. This was originally a fortified stronghold – the tower is 13th century – and later a working farm.

Packed to the gills with character; expect vaulted stone ceilings, ancient oak beams, limestone flag floors, spiral staircases and huge stone fireplaces all lifted with pops of bright, bold colour and William Morris fabrics. Bedrooms vary from cosy to deluxe, one is tucked at the very top of the tower, two have impressive vaulted ceilings. Gather every afternoon in the bar for tea, coffee and cake in front of the fire.

Breakfast is locally sourced and generous, served at flexible hours in the light-filled breakfast room or out in the sunny courtyard. The restaurant (open every evening and for lunch at the weekends) menus focus on modern French fare. Head outside for a game of tennis or giant chess while the kids let off steam in the play area.

Reviews

We love this place. The old farm's origins go back to the thirteenth century, and today the friendly staff welcome you to a place full of charm, history and up-to-date comforts. Our personal choices are the vaulted ceilinged ground-floor rooms or the little Rapunzel room in the top of the tower. Dine Norman-style in the newly refitted restaurant or take the kids to feed the chickens and rabbits.

Location

The neighbourhood

You're a five-minute drive to the British Normandy Memorial, opened in 2019 to honour all those who lost their lives serving under British Command during the Normandy Campaign. Arromanches (7km) has good restaurants, cafés, shops, cinema, D-Day museum and Mulberry Harbour. Courseulles (9km) has a marina and fishing port with a daily fish market and a Canadian war museum.

Local points of interest from Mélissa Pasquette

  • This region, which stretches along the fine sandy beaches of Bessin, is rich in turbulent historical episodes which can be traced back to ancient civilizations. The events linked to the Landing of June 6, 1944 will be forever engraved in our memories.
  • Bayeux - Located not far from the sea, in the heart of a historic region, the Ferme de la Rançonnière offers a multitude of possibilities in terms of cultural leisure activities.
  • Capital of Lower Normandy, Caen is a city of arts with a real historical heritage made up of castles, abbeys, churches and museums. Also, this city which cultivates tradition and modernism is full of sites dedicated to the major events of the 20th century.
  • Deauville is one of the seaside pearls of the Lower Normandy coast. World famous, we owe this social resort to the Duke of Morny who, seduced by this site, decided to create a racetrack to make Deauville the summer meeting place for nobles and celebrities.
  • The abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel is the most visited tourist site in Normandy. This "wonder of the world" was built between the 11th and 16th centuries. This high place of international pilgrimage owes its origin to the bishop of Avranches Saint-Aubert.
