The Experience
Jo and Steve have thought of all the little touches that make a holiday sing: fluffy robes and a generous tray in your room, a comfy sitting room with a wood-burner, pretty gardens and a pool. Relax in your big bedroom with its gleaming en suite and verdant views, take a book out to the vine covered pergola, watch the birdlife on the mill pond. It’s utterly peaceful here: a place to seek solitude and recharge.
Wake to hearty continental breakfasts with homemade bread and jams. Book a four-course supper with aperitif and amuse-bouche; veg comes from their productive potager and they showcase lots of regional ingredients. Your hosts will join you, and any other guests, so it’s a convivial affair.
You can walk or cycle from the door, pop to the nearest hilltop town, Cordes-sur-Ciel, for a meander. For a less sedate experience there’s kayaking and horse riding, any number of vineyards, and buzzy Toulouse is a short train ride away.

Another wonderful stay with Jo and Steve, absolutely nothing is too much trouble for them, the Mill is beautifully clean, the food delicious and they are great company to spend time with. Would we stay with them again…in a heartbeat and hopefully next year.

We ended our holiday in France with Jo and Stephen at Le Moulin d'Alos. We had a wonderful stay and Jo and Stephen were magnificent hosts. We were made to feel like royalty and had every need catered for...they even put the rugby on for us when the local bar closed! We joined them at a local festival as well, which was great fun. Couldn't recomend Le Moulin d'Alos more highly!

This really is a very special place to stay. Jo and Steve are great hosts and their attention to detail is exceptional. Beautiful setting-gorgeous grounds, peaceful and spacious. The lovely old house has been stylishly renovated. It retains its character with every modern comfort. Our bedroom was very comfortable with high quality bed linen, home made biscuits on the welcome tray and garden view. The bathroom was fabulous! Delicious breakfast and very enjoyable and sociable evening meal - great food and conversation. We have stayed in many Sawdays places but this is one of the very best.

Le Moulin d’Alos is a gem. We have spent many holidays in the Tarn but this Chambres d’Hôtes rivals all previous accommodation. It is set in an undulating landscape of vineyards and sunflowers, close to many delightful medieval villages. The mill is most tastefully restored. Our room was perfect and opening the shutters each day was a joy. A delicious breakfast is served in the wisteria arbour and there are cushioned loungers by the beautiful pool. Table d’hôtes is offered – great food wine and conversation. Our hosts make guests feel special. Sue and Arthur

The most lovely tranquil place; breakfast each morning under an arbour of vine and wisteria, was a treat, and if you persuade Jo and Steve to cook an evening meal for you it will be absolutely delicious. Our bedroom was extremely comfortable with everything you might need and Jo and Steve were the most friendly and caring of hosts.

This is a stunning place, set in a little valley away from traffic and any disturbance, totally tranquil. The hosts are also delightful and have created a wonderful chamber d'hotes. The rooms are big and finished to a very high standard. One of the most comfortable beds we've ever experienced. Very tempting to have a lie-in! Table d'hotes also available and equally delightful. Highly recommended.

A beautiful discovery: the 18th century water mill of Alos, renovated into a chambre and table d'hôtes. Fortified by delicious breakfasts we did some half day hikes enjoying the magnificent scenery of the region. After sampling the Tarn’s rich history by exploring Albigensian ‘bastide’ towns, abbeys and museums we sat down to a delicious dinner every evening. Here we experienced and enjoyed the real spirit of what a ‘chambre d’hôte’ should be: where one feels relaxed with friendly, attentive hosts who like meeting with their guests, sharing information and having interesting discussions.

Location
The neighbourhood
Cahuzac-sur-Vère, 7km, is the nearest town for shops and eateries, it has a good lunchtime café. Gaillac is further (18km) and has more choice. Many of the nearby vineyards offer 'apéro-visites' where you eat and drink amongst the vines. Hilltop Cordes-sur-Ciel has a petit train so no need to climb the cobbled streets for the fabulous views. Visit the Musée Toulouse-Lautrec in Albi (30km).
Local points of interest from Joanna & Steve Pendered
- Le Moulin is close to the historic hilltop villages or Cordes sur Ciel, Castelnau de Montmiral and Puycelsi. The lively city of Albi with its impressive cathedral and Toulouse Lautrec museum is an easy drive away through beautiful scenery.
- Local markets, full of interesting produce, provide a great opportunity to sit at a nearby cafe, practice your French on the locals and watch the world go by.
- Situated in the famous Gaillac wine region of France, many vineyards offer wine tastings and magical apero-concerts set amongst the vines and under starry skies. Local villages hold their annual fetes with live music, dancing and plentiful food and wine.
- What about an early morning ride in a hot air balloon for an unforgettable holiday experience?! Or an afternoon hike with a donkey? We can arrange all of these activities for you. Or you can simply relax around the pool!
- Le Moulin hosts a large variety of wildlife including deer, red squirrels, kingfishers, woodpeckers and herons. Frogs, dragonflies and a countless number of bees and other pollinators inhabit the lake and gardens of Le Moulin.
- Joanna is a passionate gardener. The potager, orchard and flower beds are run using permaculture and no-dig methods of gardening. Homegrown produce is frequently found on the dinner table at Le Moulin.

Introducing
Joanna & Steve Pendered
Jo and Steve travelled a lot in France before settling in Tarn and buying Le Moulin in 2019. They spent two years turning it into a comfortable, sociable B&B and working hard in the gardens - creating a vegetable patch, planting an orchard, as well as looking after the mature trees and shrubs. They both enjoy cooking, Jo once ran a catering company and Steve owned a microbrewery and restaurant.
This was a really special experience in so many ways. Beautiful, unspoilt area and wonderful hill top towns and villages. But Jo and Steve made it really special. They are superb hosts and we so enjoyed their company in the evenings. They have turned the old mill into a beautiful chambre d’hôtes, where every detail has been thought about so carefully. The food produced by Jo (and Steve one night!) was amazing. They were also incredibly helpful re what to visit and where to walk, even picking us up from Cordes one day. Without a doubt the best place we have ever stayed in France!
