The Experience
Take a coffee to ‘The Bolet’, the old veranda on the first floor, and watch the sun rise. This 300-year-old retreat, reached by a winding track across green fields, feels wonderfully remote. Yet civilisation is a six-minute drive, in medieval Montaigu and Tournon; at night you see Monflanquin’s lights twinkling on the hill.
Bastide towns, many with marchés gourmands, abound: Lauzerte, Roquecor, Monflanquin. Stock up at Montaigu’s Saturday market, or take a picnic to the lake for pedalos, parasols and sands. For walkers, the area is a dream; a hiking path runs right by.
Play badminton and rounders before lunch. There’s a huge lounge downstairs furnished with karaoke, mini cinema and DVDs and another sitting room with games and books. The marvellous kitchen is upstairs, and a second kitchen a step away from the barbecue and pool.

The French Farmhouse is absolutely perfect, so many places to perch inside and out, so well equipped, so peaceful, but easy to get out to explore the region. Playing in the pool, reading on the comfy outdoor sofas, eating on the terrace or by the barbecue. The area offers wonderful fresh produce and a wide array of cheese, we visited so many markets. My family loved it and have been raving about it since we left. It was a memorable holiday which all of us will cherish for years to come.

There are some truly lovely regions in France, and some truly lovely places to stay. TFF brings these together. From comfy beds, crisp cotton sheets, fluffy towels and spotlessly clean bedrooms to well-equipped kitchens and dining areas, with every need catered for. Outside and in, there’s bags of space for family gathering and entertaining. The swimming pool was heated to a perfect temperature, warm enough to welcome, cool enough to refresh following an afternoon exploring pretty bastides, river-side towns or the local vineyards. The best recommendation is to want to return . . . and we do.

We had a wonderful week at the French Farmhouse in Montaigu de Quercy. It is a beautiful house in a stunning location with plenty of space for the 6 of us. The owners have thought of everything to make the stay perfect, with detailed information about the area, great recommendations for places to visit and restaurants that we all loved. The house is beautifully furnished and equipped - we all agreed that there was nothing more we could have wanted. There were so many lovely areas to sit and relax in sun or shade and a lovely swimming pool which was very welcome in the extreme heat!

We had an amazing week at the French Farmhouse, we didn't want to leave! We were 3 families (12 in total), and totally loved everything about the house, pool, surroundings. The pace of life was very relaxed, hardly any traffic, perfect clear skies, lots of wildlife - deer, birds of prey, wild flowers, a starry night sky. The bakery in the village is superb, and there are so many delicious things to eat from the markets, cheese, honey, charcuterie, melons, tomatoes etc. The house is very well equipped and has a brilliant barbeque that we were all very envious of. We loved it!

Fantastic holiday house and grounds. Plenty of well organised space which is just perfect for multi generational/family groups. So much space outside and overall a very attractive and well appointed location. Close to everything you might need to see and do yet very peaceful and private on site. The house is extremely comfortable and well equipped inside and out - lots of activities and space options for eating /relaxing/escaping /playing /reading etc. We were really impressed, it’s gone straight to the top of our ‘best France house list’! Definitely looking forward to going back.

The house, grounds and pool were beautiful. Everything had been thought of, from every cooking utensil you could think of, enough crockery for both of the kitchens, sound systems for inside and out and games for children of all ages. A fantastic holiday location.

Great place. Roomy, stylish and really well equipped it is perfect for families sharing. Nice and secluded down a private track but still only a 5 minute drive to two little market towns nearby. Beautiful part of the country with plenty to see and do. But to be honest we had a brilliant time just lounging by the pool during the day followed by BBQs at night on the terrace. No need to go anywhere else.

Pauline and Rob have put so much care and attention to detail into the beautiful French Farmhouse – everything has been thought of. Loads of space outside to relax in, with total peace and privacy. Huge kitchen and sitting room meaning everyone can eat and chill out together. With a view of the pool from the kitchen you can watch the kids play, and my favourite spot, the “bolet”, a cosy covered balcony with gorgeous views over the rolling hills – heaven!

It often happens that you come to a rented house and understand that everything is only a facade, but your house has a «soul» and we were happy to stay there. It naturally combines contemporary style and authentic view. If we were told to choose a favorite place for our rest, it would be an improvised terrace next to the house where we loved to have dinner in the evenings. And as far as you remember we were with kids so that time they were lucky as your swimming pool had heating! It was very quiet and comfortable staying. For us your house had 9 of 10 points. We spent beautiful time in France.

We enjoyed.. The house. The views. The area. It really was lovely just spending time in the garden and eating lots of cheese and wine on the lovely patio! We’d love to return as we ran out of time to do more in the area. We visited many of the small, local towns and markets but would have loved more time to explore further. We have already recommended your place to our neighbours and I have been raving about it to anyone who will listen since returning home. You have a very special place in a beautiful part of France. We hope to return another time.

Location
The neighbourhood
The house lies between the bastide towns of Montaigu de Quercy (3km) and Tournon d'Agenais (6km), so medieval history lovers will be happy. What's more, the glorious hilltop castle of Bonaguil is a 30-minute drive. Taste wines up the road at Thézac; take lunch under the trees at L'auberge du Brelan in Laboissière. A 20-minute drive brings you to the river Lot, where you can hire canoes and swim.
Local points of interest from Pauline Whitehouse
- Wander the food markets and buy produce from local suppliers, prepare delicious meals to delight and inspire. Dine out; meals perfectly prepared, seasonal, local and simply sensational. Au P’tit Moissac, Le Caillau and Le Moulin de Dause to name a few.
- Something active? Hire a canoe on the river Lot or explore the region on two wheels, cycling at its best on our quiet roads. Bike hire is available locally. Book out the tennis courts in Montaigu, we have rackets and tennis balls that you can borrow.
- On the edge of the Cahors wine region and local to the Thezac- Perricard appellation, there are Domaines and Chateaux to visit; add a tasting to your gastronomic experience. Learn about the wine making process at Chateau Chambert and dine in their Bistro.
- Try Montaigu Plage with its beach, lake, picnic area, café & paddle boats only 10 mins from the house. Aqua Zone provides inflatable fun in the summer on Montcuq lake. Venture further to Cap Nature at Pradines nr Cahors.
- Indulge your historic self and visit chateau Bonaguil and the medieval town of Lauzerte. Montcuq and Montaigu de Quercy are bastide towns to visit, look for “Beau villages” recognised beautiful places. Peruse art galleries and people watch from a cafe.
- Slip softly into the landscape and walk local routes, wander down county tracks and take in the landscape. Watch deer in the field, see black caps, red starts, jays, hoopoe, barn and scops owl to name a few. The Golden Oriel has been heard but not seen!

Introducing
Pauline Whitehouse
In completing the renovation of the farmhouse in 2017, Rob and Pauline achieved a dream. They live next door, and when it’s rented out, they often stay in England. Pauline maintains contact with guests prior to arrival and leaves you welcome notes and local info. The English-speaking property manager lives nearby; he provides pool maintenance, cuts the grass and is of assistance when necessary.
This was the perfect venue for a family celebration and we loved everything about it. It is beautifully located and beautifully furnished. Each bedroom is attractive and comfortable, incorporating high quality items and bedding. The kitchens are fabulously equipped, again with good quality items. The gardens, pool and bbq areas are carefully mantained and the various seating areas are lovely. Everything has been carefully designed and makes it stunning! There are pleasant walks nearby, lots of lovely towns and villages to explore, and great local food markets, cafés and restaurants
