The Experience

Restored from a shell by passionate owners, this compact 16th-century château is an elegantly tasteful escape with a dollop of homely warmth. Underfloor heating keeps you toasty, Italian showers feel indulgent while character and charm have been retained and elevated with contemporary touches.

The huge ‘play’ room on the top floor will tempt children (and grown-ups) with its comfy seating, books, games and an enormous wall mounted TV, plus there’s a snug for escaping the crowd, and a smart salon calling out for candlelit dinners. Stretch out in generous bedrooms with pastoral views, all spread over three floors and reached via a turreted stone staircase.

Balmy weather means you’ll be outside floating in the pool, tumbling on the lawn or playing table tennis, badminton and boules. Wander off down private woodland trails then fire up the barbecue on the terrace or dine out in lovely Villefranche-de-Rouergue.

Reviews

In the culinary world, the Château would be a 'Fortnum & Masons ready meal for one'. Perfectly formed, oozing history, quality and charm. For every family heritage commode and mercury mottled mirror there is a pristine, modern bathroom. A perfect juxtaposition of elegant character and modern comfort. Everything you might need for a memorable holiday in a fairytale setting. Extremely indulgent.

Sarah, Sawday's Inspector

This place really is extraordinary. The lush countryside all around, the easy proximity of so many beautiful places, (not least the jaw dropping clifftop Najac just 10 minutes away), the spectacular renovation, the kindness of the owners, it was all truly special. We're fussy: we like old world elegance but modern everything else and the chateau de Castanet more than delivered. Can't wait to return!

Introducing

Armelle D'Armagnac

The Armagnac de Castanet family have owned the land since the 12th-century and live in the adjacent farmhouse. They oversaw a renovation between 2012 and 2020, using local artisans who cleverly repurposed many old materials, and then filled the interiors with antique furniture and ancestral portraits.
