The Experience

Climb the narrow road past vineyards and fields, and step back in time. Towering over high walls is a medieval château and manor house, all soft grey stone, steep roofs and deep windows. Still a working vineyard, from the manor house (your home) you’re free to roam the chateau’s parkland, a fairy-tale of topiary, lime tree walks, courtyards and formal gardens, plus hidden pool. The house retains its medieval atmosphere – thick walls, heavy beams, flagged floors – cleverly updated with modern furnishings. In the huge salon, a vast stone fireplace and shuttered windows sit happily with abstract art and linen-covered sofas. The former bakehouse mixes stone walls with hi-tech stainless steel to make a sleek kitchen. Dine there or on the grassy terrace. Bedrooms are romantic with exposed stone, rugs on centuries-old flags, antiques, glowing lamps and views over the chateau and parkland. Bathrooms mix modern and rustic to chic effect. Visit Chateaux, Villandry gardens, medieval towns and Chinon forest. Return to your romantic stronghold.

Reviews

The Manoir is a wonderful place for a holiday. Beautiful and relaxed with plenty to do and see: we enjoyed the gardens, the pool and the tennis court. Incredible sunsets and starry nights. Locally chateaux to visit, cycling, boating trips on the river, markets, delicious food and wine tasting. Genevieve and her family were delightful and welcoming. We would love to visit again

Le Manoir is as beautiful as it looks in the photos, a really special place to holiday. As a family of 4, the gardens were wonderful for allowing the children freedom to explore, feed the donkeys and play while the grown ups soaked up the tranquility. There was plenty to keep everyone entertained in the surrounding area and Azay le Rideau was just a few miles away for restaurants, wine and cheese. Would highly recommend.

The Manoir is beautiful. It is a tranquil place where the natural world has been respected and preserved: the owners are a remarkable family who obviously love nature and fine things. Sonia and Luc looked after us well and are friendly and easy to contact. Hola is a very special dog! The house is comfortable, spacious and restful. I loved the paintings. This was one of our best- ever stays.

Wes, Budleigh Salterton

One of the most magical properties I have ever visited in France. The property, with its magnificent c17th chateau sits on high land backed up against an ancient forest. The manoir is surrounded by its own gardens, within the greater park. It has been beautifully restored, respecting the original features and materials. The beds and sofas are large and comfortable. Heaven in the Loire!

Local points of interest from Eugenie Deprez

  • Welcome to the Manoir de la Cour au Berruyer! Please consider the manor as your home, but remember that it is a very old house of the 15th century, in the heart of the Loire Valley, listed as a national historic monument.
  • Château de la Cour au Berruyer produces white, red and rosé wines (from organic agriculture). We will be pleased to give you a tour of our vineyards and welcome you to a tasting of some of the wines. Car parking is available.
  • Market days (from 8am to 12.30am): Every Wednesday and Saturday at Azay le Rideau, every Monday at Chinon, and every Sunday at Langeais. Shopping: Cakes in Chinon, Tarte des vignerons (Ayrolles apple pie), Langues de Dames.
  • You can rent a bicycle at the lovely village of Brehemont on the Loire. Don't forget to visit this village in the morning or at sunset! Explore the beautiful rivers: la Loire, la Vienne, l'Indre et le Cher. Taste wines from Chinon, Saumur, Vouvray, etc.
  • Restaurants (small selection) - Azay le Rideau: Auberge Pom'Poire, L'Épine,La Terrasse du Château, La Crédence, Côté Cour & L’Aigle d’Or. Saché: Auberge du XIIè Marçay. Chinon: L'Océanic
  • Horse: Milord will be delighted to discuss with you, as the donkeys.
