The Experience
Sweep up the wooded drive to the formal gardens and know you have entered an enchanting place. The graceful château sits in wooded splendour on the banks of the Cher – and you can see the river from the suitably châteauesque bedrooms. Bathrooms and bedrooms are equally sumptuous places to get ready before you sweep downstairs for dinner. Book a fine meal and wine tasting here or head out to the local crêperie or for something more fancy.
Breakfast well – homemade preserves, fruit from the garden, eggs from the hens – on the wisteria-shaded terrace by the pool, or in the elegant dining room with an open fire for chilly days. Swim some laps in the pool, play billiards in the fab games room or just have a wander: it’s the most relaxed of places.
You’re in the heart of the Loire, dotted with opulent aristocratic estates and historic towns – Amboise, Loches and Tours are all close. Borrow bikes and pedal off down La Loire à Vélo.

An oasis of calm with elegantly-furnished spacious rooms. Madame tries to surprise guests with a different type of breakfast and home-made patisserie every day. Guests have the use of an elegant salon with grand-piano and reading matter is a plus for guests, who are able to relax there, and many have so enjoyed their visits that they keep coming back.

Le Clos du Fontenay is sublime. Picture perfect chateau with lovely grounds. We stayed in the charming room "Les Vignes" which looks out over the sweeping lawn down to the River Cher. Gracious and welcoming hosts went out of their way to make us feel at home. After a day at Chateau Chenonceau, only a few kilometres away, and delicious dinner in Amboise, we returned to the moonlit meadow by the vineyard and listened to the wind rustling the leaves and an owl hooting in the distance. Magic!

Staying in a chateau is a wonderful way to visit the Loire. We truly enjoyed our stay in "Le Clos de Fontenay". Our hosts were lovely and their dog, Chocolat, was very cute- if you required Nathalie, our host, you could put your foot on step to the kitchen and he would bark and call Nathalie for you. Nathalie magically appeared! Breakfast was very good. There was always a different home baked cake everyday and freshly squeezed orange juice and home made jams, plus a range of local cheeses and cold meats. We had a lovely view towards Amboise from our bedroom window as well.

Location
The neighbourhood
You're in a hamlet on the fringe of pretty Bléré which has shops, bars and restaurants. A little further is Amboise (11km) with its magnificent riverside Château d'Amboise and Le Château du Clos Lucé once home to Leonardo da Vinci, now open to visitors. Loches and Tours, both 27km, are lively, sophisticated places to visit. The elegant river-spanning Château de Chenonceau is a short drive.

- Enjoy our heated pool between 15 April and 30 September and our tennis court all year round.
- You can fish in the river Cher directly from the pontoon of our property.

Introducing
Nathalie Carli
Two families make the château and estate what they are today - Monsieur and Madame Carli are your hosts and Monsieur and Madame Corby produce the estate wine. They are supported by a super team who can arrange wine tastings, canoe trips and generally keep the place ticking over. Occasionally grown-up children and their children visit during the holidays.
We stayed in La Closerie for 5 nights. It is a very quiet, comfortable and well-furnished cottage. The grounds of the Chateau are lovely, and we enjoyed walks along the river in both directions. There are good shops and restaurants in Blere. The location is very convenient to the central Loire. Nathalie is a charming host. Highly recommended.
