The Experience

Holiday in a vineyard? What could be better! The gîte here is in the grounds of a traditionally designed, ‘modern’ château near Tours. You are sitting in 12 acres of red, white and rosé, mixed with formal gardens and woodland with foraging deer.

La Closerie, no longer the wash house, has been transformed into a ground-floor cottage, with a comfortable salon and an open fireplace for chillier days. Cooks will be happy chatting to diners in the compact kitchen; eat in, or repair to the garden for a candle-and-star-lit supper. The winery is owned by a friend of the Carlis, who makes sweet white Chenins and fizzy Rosière, among others; buy some to take home.

Bikes and kayaks can be hired locally for exploring the valley and the monuments. Visit the 18th-century Pagode de Chanteloup, an architectural marvel, in its park, although the château has long since disappeared.

Reviews

Thank you Nathalie, we enjoyed our stay with you so much, a wonderful last few days in France. A stunning Chateau, our room was very nice with wonderful views down to the river. Cycle rides by the river, wonderful walks, so much to do localy you need a number of days here to be able to enjoy it all. We will certainly be returning for a longer stay. 10 out of 10.

Location

The neighbourhood

The Cher river, a tributary of the Loire, winds lazily through the old town; heavenly Chenonceau is four miles away, and Amboise, Azay, Blois not much further. The highlight of any stay here is visiting all the lovely châteaux and delightful gardens – Bourdaisière is 12km and Valmer 30km. As for Bléré, it's the home of one of France's best cheesemakers – take yourselves off on a tour.

Local points of interest from Nathalie Carli

  • Discover our vineyards, our cave and taste our wines.
  • Get on a bike and discover the scenery along the river Cher. You can access the river side directly from our house and ride through the Ambroise forest to reach the château de Chenonceau.
  • Enjoy our heated pool between 15 April and 30 September and our tennis court all year round.
  • You can fish in the river Cher directly from the pontoon of our property.
  • We are only a 30mn drive to visit the Loire Châteaux .
  • Hot air balloon rides can be arranged nearby

Introducing

Nathalie Carli

Two families make the château and estate what they are today - Monsieur and Madame Carli are your hosts and Monsieur and Madame Corby produce the estate wine. They are supported by a super team who can arrange wine tastings, canoe trips and generally keep the place ticking over. Occasionally grown-up children and their children visit during the holidays.
