The Experience

Enter what appears to be a backdrop to the Knights Templar (and there is much evidence of their occupation in this area) with steel studs in the vast front door, wall lights fashioned as ‘flaming’ torches and a wrought-iron chandelier over the dining table. The sitting room is filled with antiques, a few books and has an open fireplace, but much of your time will be spent in the courtyard by the pool. Here you’ll find another big table for al fresco meals, a stone barbecue and, leading off it, a beautiful Mediterranean garden.

Bedrooms face the courtyard to remain cool, one of the terraces is shaded, and there are ‘secret’ places to read or doze in the shade of mature trees with the scent of lavender and mimosa wafting about. A basket of local produce is left for you which includes Banyuls liquor – a delicious apero.

You’re near to beaches, creeks and coves along the rocky coastline.

Superb Mas on an exceptional site!!! Guaranteed change of scenery. We had a wonderful stay in this property in the middle of the vineyards in the countryside. We came as a family for a real moment of relaxation, the weather was good and we enjoyed the swimming pool which we could make use of at this time. The house is spacious, bright and the energy is calming, everything we needed to unwind from Parisian life!! We will come back without hesitation for a future stay. Thank you to the owners for allowing us to stay in this magnificent place.

As a lover of 'vieilles pierres' (old stones), as they say, I would be in heaven for a stay at Mas Falgara: the space, the tradition, the peace of the countryside yet close to the sea. This is a unique and very special place.

Location

The neighbourhood

You're in the hills which form the tail-end of the Pyrenees - just before they plunge into the sea. Views are of swathes of olive groves, spruce and vineyards dotted with houses. The pass to the Spanish Costa Brava is just 30 minutes away and drops down into the Bay of Rosas. Banyuls has restaurants and tapas bars. Market days are Thursdays and Sundays and buses to Perpignan are frequent.

Situated in the heart of the Vermillon Coast, amongst coastal terraced vineyards is the delightful seaside town of Banyuls-sur-Mer.
It was home to the famous sculptor Aristide Maillol, and offers its visitors and holidaymakers a marvellous range of things to explore.
With its seafront esplanade, dotted with palm trees, cafes, restaurants, bars, a marina and the beach it is a place to savour the Mediterranean experience.
Other attractions include the Thalasso Therapy Institute, many wine cellars, and the aquarium of the Arago Laboratory.
The picturesque & romantic town, Collioure, also named ‘the City of Painters’ is a neighbouring town only 15 minutes north of Banyuls-sur-mer.

Introducing

Karina & Kevin

Karina (an author) and Kevin (a musician) bought the house recently but also have a base in New Zealand. They retreat to the sanctuary of the mas when they need to recuperate from their busy lives. They are "very committed to living healthily, harmoniously, sustainably and creatively by exploring their human potential." The house is managed by Pascale who greets you and ensures all is well.
