The Experience
Painters, poets, nature-lovers love this place, where history and romance combine. Dark 16th-century passages and uneven stone floors open into heavily beamed rooms sympathetically revived. Choose one of two big, simple bedrooms, authentic in their white cotton and old armoires, the more recent on the ground floor. Look out to the ancient trees of the park or the great courtyard and ruined Cistercian abbey. Sisters Renée and Claude, warm, knowledgeable, generous, were born here and provide convivial breakfasts and dinners. Wild gardens and duck ponds, lazy cats and lovely walks into the landscape.

What a delightful place to stay. The beds were comfortable, the shower excellent and the dinners quite special. We look forward to returning here in the future to continue our conversation with Claude and Renee.

I write on behalf of four of us who stayed for 2 nights earlier this month. We all enormously enjoyed our stay with the delightful sisters Renee and Claude . The rooms were spotless and very atmospheric with lovely period French furniture . The dinners were outstanding with fresh local produce beautifully presented and delicious. A pity we did not have more time to explore the area and enjoy the hospitality of the two ladies.

Wow! Amazing house, beautiful setting, fascinating area, glorious breakfasts & veggie food, huge bedroom, antique furniture, lovely shower room &, above all, 2 charming, generous, flexible, kind hosts whose local knowledge ensured great days out. Claude & Renee provide a very French experience. Their English is excellent and their knowledge highly enlightening. The house is a chateau adjoining abbey ruins and is a must for all history and/or food lovers. Their family of rescued dogs and cats is also enchanting. Don't miss this wonderful experience which combines past glories with all mod cons.

The two sisters could not have been more helpful, following on from my mistake in not realising how isolated this accommodation was, being 23 km from Carcassone, and 5km from the nearest town. They did all possible to make my stay a pleasant one, which it certainly was! A beautiful, tranquil, albeit somewhat isolated location. A big Thank you to the two sisters!

We were delighted with our stay at Villelongue. The welcome was warm, the room charming, and the dinner and breakfast copious and of very high quality. It is ideally located for walks and exploring Cathar country. Highly recommended.

Renee and Claude were a very dear couple and provided marvelous food. One evening after supper Renee asked my wife if she would like some herb tea, to which she replied yes please. So out she trotted into the garden and came back with a handful of mint, parsley, sage and other herbs, shoved them into a cafetiere - and bingo, there was the genuine herb tea! Touches like that make these places special.

Claude and Renée are truly friendly and attentive hosts and let us and our dog feel most welcome. It is a house with character with a beautiful garden, adjoining the monastery. During our three day stay mid of April, we enjoyed the special atmosphere of the place and enriching and pleasant conversations with the owners, it's a pleasure to listen to their stories!
