The Experience

From the outside, this 18th-century mansion is a classic maison de maître vigneron – square, solid and symmetrical – but step inside and the owners’ quirky Dutch sensibility is writ large.

Brightening the traditional with contemporary touches, the cosy ground floor sitting room has an old-school vibe with wood panelling, deep armchairs and piles of books, while upstairs, a family-friendly room is light-filled and laid-back. There are huge photographs on the wall and squishy sofas to sprawl on.

The house sleeps up to 15 in seven bedrooms and there are four bathrooms to share. It’s a convivial place. The big kitchen bristles with mod cons, with plenty of space for rustling up meals for many. There’s a barbecue and a pétanque court in the front garden and behind the house, a play area for the kids and a heated saltwater pool with views stretching to distant hills.

Reviews

This place is fun and comfortable. A very French manor house has been turned Dutch with strong colours and great enlarged photographs. The sense of humour makes a welcome change. Your enthusiastic and creative hosts will answer your questions then leave you in peace – unless you need anything – to enjoy the space (two sitting rooms, a luxury for a large group), the pool and the local delights.

Location

The neighbourhood

The local village has a supermarket, bakery, several cafés, and an outdoor market on Wednesdays. Narbonne (28km) also has a fantastic market that’s worth a visit. Book a table at the Michelin-starred Restaurant la Table Saint Crescent. On the salt lakes of Gruissan (40km) Cambuse de Saunier serves incredible seafood. For wine tasting, try the family-run Chateau Luc in Luc sur Orbieu (27km).

Local points of interest from Micky Lindelauf

  • Our Manoir is located in a beautiful typical French village: Bize-Minervois. A village with a weekly market, restaurants, an antique shop, a supermarket and a pharmacy, a bar for morning coffees or afternoon drinks and of of course a bakery for croissants!
  • Nearby you can find the city of Narbonne, the first Roman settlement outside of Italy. Narbonne is a beautiful Mediterranean city with nice shops, a lively market hall, a beautiful cathedral and many nice restaurants and terraces.
  • You can cycle through the vineyards and along the Canal du Midi, which is in our backyard, but it is also very nice to cycle along the seafront. You can stop for a dip in the water or for a cool glass of white wine with oysters!
  • We love the good life and therefore we love delicious food paired with good wine. There are plenty of possibilities for dinners and lunches in the surroundings. We can advice you! And... do not miss out a good wine tasting!
  • Enjoy a walk on the endless sandy beaches of Narbonne and Gruissan, sunbathe, swim, build sand castles or “lounge and lunch” at a beach club. Another good destination for trendy beach clubs is Leucate Plage. Or try to spot flamingos in Peyriac de Mer.
  • Or...visit Carcassonne; the best preserved fortified city from the Middle Ages (UNESCO World Heritage List)–Perpignan; a French city where you can feel and taste the Spanish influence–Beziers; with its high-altitude cathedral and the Nine Locks.

Introducing

Micky Lindelauf

Originally from the Netherlands, Micky and Roger moved to France with their kids in 2007, searching for a new life in the sun. They clearly delight in “living on holiday”. Both love to renovate and decorate – as Micky says, “we are always looking for that one detail, that one chair, that perfect colour to make a room beautiful”. They’re on hand with help and advice, should you need it.
