The Experience
The setting cannot be bettered – the villa, built in the 1980s, is perched on the hillside, with a small beach a minute’s stroll and cosmopolitan Ajaccio within easy reach.
Informal and fun, it’s a place for family and friends. Inside, spacious proportions and vast windows let the light pour in; find a hamper of Corsican delicacies in the sleek kitchen and roomy bedrooms dotted about with their own private terraces or living spaces. Outside, relax, dine and entertain among the palms and olives on the shady terrace and barbeque area.
You can nip to the beach for a morning swim, go kayaking, paddle boarding and loll by the pool on typically sunny days (it can be fenced off for small children). Go hiking around La Cascade des Anglais (55km) and plunge in the natural pools; culture seekers can soak up the history of Ajaccio’s cobbled streets – gather for dinner in the old town and muse on what fun tomorrow will bring.

I have stayed at Alba Marina every summer for more than 10 years. The villa is wonderfully situated in the Ajaccio bay not so far from the Sanguinaires cape. The view of the bay is splendid and the garden full of different areas to sit in. Inside, the house is furnished with a lot of style, each bedroom has its own bathroom and its own atmosphere. It is very well equipped and fits well to a family with children or for adults staying together. And moreover, and very importantly, the owners are very nice and always there to give good advice and be helpful!

This is undoubtedly the best villa we have stayed in for a family holiday. The house is minutes from a sandy beach with boats, boards and kayaks for hire and beach cafes for food and refreshment. At the back the gardens are terraced, while in front there are well maintained lawns and flower beds. The sea views are stunning. You can swim in the pool, laze under one of the large umbrellas or cook on the barbecue. The house is very well furnished and generously equipped. We also enjoyed taking the bus to the interesting town of Ajaccio. Alba Marina a lovely place to stay.

This rambling house is a perfect place for a family get-together and lazy days spent on the beach or by the pool. Hikers will love the glorious mountains behind the house, history buffs will love to go in search of traces of Bonaparte and sporty types will hire yachts, scuba gear, paddle boards and explore the rocky coastline of the bay. Heaven!

We love this beautiful, spacious, comfortable and very elegant house with breathtaking views. The location of the villa is excellent as it's literally 100 meters away from the beach. Several nice beach restaurants are a walking distance away, which is convenient as for a one week stay we can go to a new place each day. The host is welcoming, approachable and helpful. The villas features a nice garden and a sizeable pool so if you're travelling with children there's plenty to keep them occupied all day long.

Location
The neighbourhood
You’re on the Route des Sanguinaires which separates the coast from the mountains. 8.4km away is the capital Ajaccio, Napoleon’s birthplace with lovely restaurants, shopping and markets – drive in 15 minutes, catch a bus from outside the villa or head out on foot for the day. For sporty days join the GR20 route or head to La Cascade des Anglais and Bocognano (50km) for forest trails and canoeing.
Local points of interest from Sheila Smertnik
- Stroll over to the beach, literally 3minutes away-the first of a series of beaches up and down the coast, each with their distictive features and ambiance- and typical "pailottes"- Corsican beach restaurants , where you can have a nice meal or a drink!
- Sample local produce at Ajaccio's colourful daily market, visit the city's Napoleonic historical sites, or pick up the latest in French fashion in the boutiques on the Cours Napoleon , all a short drive (or bus or bike ride) from the villa.
- Soak up the beautiful pink sunsets: from the villa's terrace or garden , see the spectacular reds from the tip of the Sanguinaires, or follow the sun's slipping like an orange egg yolk into the sea at Capo di Feno beach! Lovely way to end the day.
- Walk the smugglers' coastal trail from the villa ,past the Sanguinaires ,leading to the beautiful and wild Capo di Feno surfer's beach , or the"Chemin des Cretes " mountain path from the villa to downtown Ajaccio: breathtaking views guaranteed !
- Explore the Genovese tower at Parata point, the lighthouse and lazaret on the Sanguinaires Islands. The French author Alphonse Daudet spent some months there, in 1863 and describes it as both rugged and dreamlike in his "Les Lettres de Mon Moulin"
- Go up in to the mountains ! visit Bocognano on the road to Corte .Breathe in the mountain air while trying your hand at canyoning, via ferrata or accrobranche, or enjoying the cascades and waterfalls and footpaths near the legendary G20 hiking trail

Introducing
Sheila Smertnik
Charming Sheila and her husband – she Canadian, he French - bought the villa over 10 years ago after falling in love with Corsica on a sailing trip. They’re keen walkers, so make use of the bookcases full of trail books and maps. They live in Paris but often travel to the island so they may be there for your arrival and are always contactable should you have any questions. When they’re not here, you’ll be shown in by the house manager, or you can arrange to self-check-in if preferred.
Alba Marina is a beautiful light-filled house located on the route des Sanginaires literally just across the street from the beach. The views are spectacular. As the house is built on a hillside each bedroom is on a different level and as such affords each couple extra privacy. Sheila is a thoughtful host who is also very reactive should an emergency arise. The kitchen is very well equipped, but if you feel like a change of pace for lunch the beach paillotes are just across the street, and of course Ajaccio just a short drive away. A perfect interlude in the midst of a not so predictable yr.
