The Experience

Surrounded by acres of woodland and pasture, a blissfully remote Burgundy farmhouse with charming rooms. Retired journalist Lee has transformed her historic home into a mellow countryside retreat. Parquet floors and oak beams endure in light, spacious bedrooms filled with antiques; each has a sparkling modern bathroom. Lee’s bountiful vegetable garden provides much of the produce for superb regional meals eaten communally. Only birdsong disturbs the deep peace, so go slow and laze by the inviting pool, explore the wild gardens, take a siesta… or head out to Vézelay hilltop village or medieval Clamecy. Wonderful.

Reviews

This is a perfect place if you want a beautiful tranquil setting, tastefully furnished house and absolutely delicious locally produced meals. Our host, Lee was so charming, kind, helpful, nothing too much trouble, we had a lovely stay and most certainly will be back.

Deirdre, Lewes

We knew from the reviews to expect a lovely place, it was even better than we dared hope. Our arrival was delayed due to traffic in Paris, delaying our meal etc, but our gracious and charming host warmly welcomed us and we ate a wonderful meal. Our room was tasteful, comfortable and had everything we could possibly need. We will most certainly return.

Our 3 night stay at Auberge de la Tuilerie was the perfect ending to our holiday. Lee and her wonderful team are magnificent hosts - providing us with beautifully appointed rooms (double for us and twin for our teenage girls), fabulous dinners (we ate in all 3 nights) and excellent local knowledge. The swimming pool was a bonus during the sultry August afternoons. We dined al fresco, watching the sun setting over the sunflower fields, whilst chatting with the other guests (ranging in age from 10 months to about 70 yrs - French, Dutch and English) and devouring Lee’s home grown delights.

Elizabeth, Bristol

A lovely rural retreat with swimming pool and plenty of garden space. Very well cared for by Lee and her team with delicious food with contents from the garden. Would very happily visit again.

We experienced the most tranquil and delightful seven nights at Auberge de la Tuilerie this summer! The location and the farmhouse itself are just magical and are perfect if you are looking for a peaceful getaway in the beautiful Burgundy countryside. Lee the owner is a stupendous host, apart from being an amazing chef!! We had superb evening meals during our stay, all created by Lee. Thanks to Lee for making the start of our holiday very special - we would like to return next year!

Nicola, Amsterdam

Beautiful, peaceful house in rolling Burgundy countryside, with interesting sites like Vezelay within range. Excellent cooking and refreshing pool on a hot summer's evening. Lee creates a very relaxed atmosphere for communal meals with other guests, which were a lot of fun. Highly recommended.

William, Oxford

Magnifique! What a wonderful Auberge Lee has created. After two and a half days on the road we were feeling drained but dinner on our first night was sumptious and welcoming, seated around the table in the garden we were drawn into meeting new friends. Our room was fresh, clean ,changed every three days, Lee's staff were wonderful, cheery and personable, the gardens and pool a real delight. And then there is the food....there is no need to drive anywhere to eat, Lee produced wonderful fresh food, sourced from her garden or local suppliers. Heaven, we will return.

Stuart, Blairgowrie

A lovely place to stay with a super pool, comfortable beds and very welcoming host. The stand-out delight here is Lee’s cooking - absolutely delicious! Lots of the produce is from her garden, it was beautifully presented, and the perfect quantity. Adults and children ate together in a convivial atmosphere in the garden.

Delia, Oxford

Gem of a find in the heart of Burgundy. Tranquil and welcoming with beautifully prepared food served fresh from the garden in a convivial atmosphere.

Matthew, London

A truly magical and peaceful place to stay on the last night of our trip. Surrounded by fields and breath-taking views across the surrounding countryside. The farmhouse is beautifully furnished and decorated and the gardens and vegetable patch are perfectly maintained. Sadly we didn’t have time to have a swim in the pool but I can definitely say it looked very inviting. Lee is a wonderful host and couldn’t be more kind and helpful. We were treated to an exquisite dinner which included her own produce from the garden and plenty of delicious wine. We were so lucky to find this wonderful place.

Alexandra, Tunbridge Wells

Set in idyllic open farmland surrounded by woodland this is a perfect place to really relax & enjoy nature. Very comfortable accommodation & Lee & her new puppy were very welcoming & helpful- our dog was delighted to have a playmate!

Ann, Broadway

A wonderful place in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by open arable fields & views as far as the eye could see. Delicious four course meal with wine, eaten under the stars in Lee’s sweet garden. Late night chat with Lee & her very interesting guests & friends. A special corner of France.

Annie, Godalming

Nice and atmospheric stay in a rural environment. Warm and personal contact with the owner. Excellent vegetarian meals served in the garden. Eating at sunset. Perfect!

G, Zwolle

There is only one word for our stay with Lee - exquisite! From the delicious home cooked dinner that even our fussy children devoured, to the peace and tranquility of the setting, the super-clean pool to keep you cool, the rooms so beautifully put together. Such a highlight of our trip -thank you for making our short stay so special. And for sharing your recipes so we can try and recreate those dishes and moments at home! Annie and Grahem

We spent wonderful days at the Auberge de la Tuilerie.Lee is a very charming lady and we appreciated her cooking skills which you can compare with the best restaurant. In the evening you can dine in a beautiful sunny garden with an impressive view of the sunset. The surroundings are beautiful, quiet and the area invites you to walk for hours. Highly recommended, a jewel in the Burgundy region!

Eddy, Knokke

Lee is not only a very warm host who can express herself perfectly in French and English - she is also an amazing cook. We had the best and most refined dinner of our trip, lots of wine and too much cheese included ;) Auberge de la Tuilerie offers a cosy and authentic room. After passing by Lee's vegetable garden you can dive right into the pool (which is large enough to actually swim). The view in the front garden is priceless (highlight: sunset) - making it extra hard to leave.

Sander, Bruges

we loved this place. It ticked every box. It was charming quiet and cool. Utterly relaxing after a long drive from the coast. The icing on the cake was a great meal cooked by Lee which we ate outside in the garden. We slept really well.

Judith, Fowey

The most terrible thing about this place was....having to leave! This is hospitality at its finest. Perfectly pitched between friendly and letting you do your own thing. The house and gardens were simply exquisite. Casual elegance which has clearly been lovingly created. Lee and her lovely friends made Brian and I two quite excepcional dinners, and rustled up a bottle of champagne for us on the second night which was our wedding anniversary. Lovely place, lovely people. We will definitely come back. Can’t be soon enough.

Jo and Brian, Nottingham

Beautiful house in the middle of stunning and deeply peaceful countryside. A delicious dinner served out under the stars was a wonderful occasion. My 13 year old told me he wants to go back!

Gavin, London

The place has the most fabulous position truly in the French Yonne countryside, far from busy roads, fields all around and a wood to its rear, over 2 days we saw at least 4 species of Butterfly by the pool. We were lucky enough to have the room on the left-hand-side of the property with its independent entrance with table/chairs for two outside facing the pool in the distance. Ms. Lee Y. (originally from New York 20+ years ago) works hard keeping everything charming and perfect. Breakfast and optional dinner is also superb and charming.
