The Experience
The house sits on top of a hill with a fine view over fields with grazing Charolais cattle and the medieval village of Saint-Julien-de-Civry, a quiet place with a good bakery so it’s just five minutes for your morning croissants. You’ll spend lots of time outdoors, doing lengths or simply floating in the long pool, eating on the terrace, sunbathing on the lawn or snoozing in a hammock.
Inside is happily authentic with the original clay tiled floors covered by rugs, a grand stone fireplace in the comfy sitting room with a wood-burner, antique furniture and a good mix of old prints and colourful modern art. Bedrooms (one downstairs with an en suite bathroom and doors to the garden) are all a good size and some have the wonderful view.
The kitchen is compact but there are plenty of pots and pans and all the basics for cooking up a storm. In grim weather you can eat indoors at a convivial wooden table. Revel in the peace and quiet.

Location
The neighbourhood
You're near to the wine region of Burgundy for tasting and buying. The nearest town is Charolles (10km) for shops and a wide choice of restaurants including the Michelin-starred Doucet and lots of terrace cafés. On the wine route you'll pass lots of interesting little villages and towns with very friendly locals, market days and concerts in some of the churches. La Clayette (13km) has a station.
Local points of interest from Jennifer Heckman
- Maison Stirling is a centuries-old stone cottage located in the heart of Burgundy's Brionnais region, where Charolais cattle graze in nearby fields. It is perfectly positioned on a hilltop overlooking the medieval village of Saint-Julien-de-Civry.
- The spectacular Burgundy wine region is close enough to savor, yet Maison Stirling offers a tranquil escape and a sense of true privacy to enjoy the beautiful region.
- A quick 2-minute drive from Maison Stirling brings you down to the village bakery each morning for a croissant. Dine al fresco by the pool and listen to the church bells rise up from the village below.
- Famous Romanesque churches and villages, like those in Cluny and Paray-le-Monial are a short drive away. Charolles, a 10-minute drive away, offers splendid restaurants and shopping, as well as grocery markets to prepare meals at home.
- Visit the nearby Canal du Centre, the boundary between the Cote d'Or and Saone-et-Loire, and hire an electric bike or ride a barge to see the villages along the Canal du Centre.
- During the summer and fall, there are charming village festivals, outdoor markets and brocantes. Explore the Charolais-Brionnais region on a hot air balloon ride during sunrise or sunset. It is an experience you will never forget!

Introducing
Jennifer Heckman
Jennifer (half French, half American) is a lawyer who lives in Florida with her three teenage children. She inherited the house from her French uncle and loves to come here as often as she can. She loves the house but also loves to share it and she hopes you will enjoy it. There is always somebody to meet you and show you around and a neighbour is available if you have any questions.
A lovely getaway for friends and family... the views are superb across the Brionnais countryside, and the house is very well equipped and comfortable.
