The Experience
Anne, descendant of an ancient Breton family, and Alfred, who is Swiss, are passionate about animals, gardens, music, life! They welcome you open-armed to their inimitable house: a private chapel, a bio garden, rare trees, 1800s wallpapers, a carved staircase, a mosaic’d floor. She runs willow-weaving classes and plies you with homemade delights; he builds organs; both love the slow life. Bedrooms have antique radiators and are properly old-fashioned, our favourite being the family room. No plastic anything, few mod cons, just intelligent, humorous hosts and a house steeped in atmosphere, beauty and peace.

We stayed at Anna's place for two nights while touring Normandy and Brittany in August. Anna is the most welcoming host and the house is absolutely stunning! From gorgeous sitting rooms to our spacious and comfortable bedroom. The house is a must to stay if you are visiting the area.

We had a fantastic two weeks with Anne and Alfred in their château. There was something special for each of our four children aged 7, 6, 4 and 4. From the ponies to the gardens and the history it was a magical experience for us. Anne and Alfred made our stay complete and were so generous with their time and enthusiasm. It is so lovely and quiet too. We visited the beach, local pool, restaurants, museums, pony club, castles, zoo. It's definitely a trip that's had a positive impact on all of us.

We loved this place so much. The chateau is beautiful and Ann and Alfred are so generous in the way in which they share it with others. As animal lovers we felt totally home surrounded by their pets. Food was organic and served in the wonderful dining room. We slept in the stables, can you call stables Palatial? They certainly felt very spacious and comfortable. Our only regret was that we arrived late and stayed only one night. We will definitely go back and stay for longer next time.

Simple Chateau with grounds in country, handy for Dinan and Rennes. Rooms are large, though floors squeak well and are not that flat! Anne and Alfred make one welcome and have good suggestions for restaurants nearby. Our dog loved the grounds and the pony in the paddock, its all a bit wild but very relaxing.

Heaven on earth! We arrived sooner than Alfred was expecting and he kindly suggested a walk through the woods to the lake - birdsong, sunshine and the occasional rustle of the leaves and all to ourselves. On our return we were met by Anne who - it being Sunday - kindly booked a table for us in nearby Becherel where all the bookshops were still open. She gave us so much information about her home and family and we were astonished at how open they are to sharing so much with strangers. We didn't want to leave but we hope very much to return.

Anna & Alfred made us very welcome during our stay at Chateau de Quengo - the house and gardens are simply stunning and their approach to life refreshing and generous. We stayed in a lovely room at the top of the old chestnut staircase. Breakfast was a feast of local produce! Very helpful with places to visit and local restaurants - we will return!

My wife and I stayed with Anne & Alfred recently and had a lovely room at the rear of the house on the ground floor. It had a lot of history and was very private. We enjoyed our stay and will stay again should we find ourselves near Rennes in the future.

If you don't dream of a place like this then you're missing something very special. A chateau. Delightful hosts. Comfortable, characterful and generous space. Creatures great and small. Perhaps the most perfect place to relax. The chateau is a delicious place to arrive at. We stayed five nights and only scratched the surfface of the adventures to be had. We had our 5 year old with us and the oodles of space and the charm of our hosts made it a joy for her too. We'd love to go again. Recommended for young and old and there's an extra bonus for the musical amongst us.

We stayed five nights with Alex and Anne. It's an amazing house, full of beautiful furniture, musical instruments, so many souvenirs of times past. We especially appreciated Alex taking the time to show us his workshop. The place is a delight: peaceful, evocative house and grounds with warm, welcoming hosts; we would love to visit again.
