The Experience

A short hop by plane or a slightly longer boat ride depending on the tides will deliver you to this rugged place of peace and unspoilt nature. The newly built hotel has been designed to melt into the surroundings as much as possible – two main buildings, joined by verandas and surrounded by a garden with paths. Big windows take in the stunning views; you can hang out in the guest sitting room, read a book or catch up on some work – WiFi is strong.

Choose between an apartment, a suite or a standard double room either on the ground or first floor. Find clean, sober lines, natural materials, lots of pale wood and those gorgeous views, either over the gardens or the bay. The spa has an indoor swimming pool, or down by the ocean you’ll find a sauna and a current pool with a deck for sunbathing.

Meals are served in the dining room and are as local and organic as possible, including produce from the gardens.

Reviews

Ouessant is an island of legendary beauty, isolated for centuries at the westernmost tip of Brittany. This hotel is a wonderful base for exploring the island and its history, taking long walks or kayaking trips before returning to wonderful vegetarian meals cooked from what is growing in the hotel garden. The spa and pools are very tempting too – one would return from a holiday here very fit!

Location

The neighbourhood

In Ushant, the island's tiny capital, you'll find good places to eat just a five-minute walk away. The hotel is set just back from the sea and a footpath follows the coast all around the island. Walking, paddle boarding, wild swimming and kayaking are popular – there is a kayak rental service nearby and Sophie the owner can take you out if you're unsure about the coastline and rocks.

Local points of interest from Sophie Chave

  • Explore endless views of the 42 kilometer coastal path that surrounds the island.
  • The Niou Ecomuseum features a traditional Ouessantine house. Learn about the rich culture and history of the island up until the early 1960s.
  • The Stiff lighthouse offers a spectacular view of the island and surrounding lighthouses during guided tours organized at dusk, a must see!
  • Sauna - Make yourself comfortable in this cocoon, facing the ocean, and let yourself be enveloped by soothing warmth.
  • Our 18x3m pool, heated and sheltered by a veranda that opens at the first ray of sunshine, is waiting for you to enjoy your sessions at your own pace.
  • Our establishment is a place dedicated to your fitness. It is home to a “Maison Sport Santé”, a label awarded jointly by the French Ministry of Sports.

Introducing

Sophie Chave

Sophie and her husband, both from 'the mainland' as they call France, started to come to the island on holiday over a decade ago and fell in love with it. When they discovered the land for sale their passionate dream of creating a hotel and spa started to take shape. They live on site and look after you well, along with a team of local staff, a resident chef and sous-chef.
