The Experience

Imagine a traditional Breton stone cottage two minutes from the sea, with a garden that’s leafy and large. It’s a generous place, thanks to Arnaud, and in summer (May to October) you can enjoy his glamping site’s bikes, paddle boards, jacuzzi and sauna… most extras are free.

The rest of the year you have the place to yourself. Follow the windswept clifftop path up to Cap Coz, or south to the resort of Beg Meil. Recover by the wood-burner with a bottle of cider; the burner roars and the logs are on the house.

You can’t stroll up the road to the shops, but there’s a bakery you can cycle to. Find shops aplenty in Fouesnant, a few minutes’ drive, and markets on Fridays and Saturdays (Saturday’s is organic). Arnaud is extremely helpful and knows all the best places, from cider spots to restaurants and crêperies. The food at Hôtel de la Pointe, Cap Coz is superb, while Beg Meil has a great little bistro: Chez Hubert.

Reviews

This is one of those quirky places we hope to discover when exploring Brittany: a stone cottage on a country lane that leads to a charming little cove and coastal walks. Enjoy stepping up and down into different rooms, enjoy the vast fireplace, but also appreciate the modern kitchen and supremely comfy beds with sumptuous sheets. It will feel like your very French own holiday home.

Location

The neighbourhood

The beaches are very safe for young children with few waves. Walk as much of the Chemin des Douaniers footpath as you have the energy for. Visit Quimper old town, Pont Aven impressionist museum, or the fortified town of Concarneau. Committed sailors can reach the sailing school in a 10-minute walk, or rent stand up paddle boards. Cyclists can tackle the Roscoff to Concarneau bike route.

Local points of interest from Arnaud Polaillon

  • Watersports; fishing, snorkelling, paddle board and canoe from the beach beneath the cottage; at nearby CAP-COZ there is a sailing school, as well as dinghies for you to hire; the famous surf spot LA TORCHE is 35’ drive with surf hire and lessons.
  • GR34 famous coastal footpath pass just in front of the cottage; embark on a day trip to CONCARNEAU and return with the ferry or aim for a well deserved sundowner at BENODET and will fetch you; use our complimentary bikes to explore MOUSTERLIN
  • Sample local cuisine from Chez Hubert brillant bistro food in BEG MEIL to the seaside terrace of "Café du Port" in LA FORET FOUESNANT, or the oyster bench chez Fabienne. La Cornouaille, like Cornwall is cider paradise, fruity, complex and slightly acidic!
  • Tour south Brittany highlights: towns of QUIMPER, CONCARNEAU, PONT-AVEN and LOCRONAN are worth a visit; further away, the scenic roads of CROZON are perfect…with a convertible.
  • Sail to les Glénan archipelago: imagine Scilly Islands in a very small scale but with the same crystal clear waters and white beaches. Daily ferry from BENODET and CONCARNEAU.
  • Golf with a view: the course à LA FORET FOUESNANT is not only pleasant and challenging but with very nice views of the baie de La Foret.

Introducing

Arnaud Polaillon

This is Arnaud's family estate, bought by his ancestor in 1899. There are orchards, gardens, woodland and even a generator so the estate is self-sufficient. Rhododendrons and azaleas line the paths down to the beach, it's all very pretty and peaceful and Arnaud is a very helpful host.
