The Experience

This country spot is what you’d call remote but not isolated: a scattering of houses, a bakery to walk to, and the glory of the Crozon peninsula a 20-minute drive. Whether you’re with friends or family, this is one sweet retreat from which to explore Brittany. Kervihan is a former merchant’s house, sturdily built with stone walls and slate-topped sills, and magnificent sand-blasted timbers that dominate the upstairs living space. At one end are two crisp sofas by the wood-burner; at the other, a beautiful snug kitchen; and between the two, a dining table in chatting reach of the cooking space.  What’s more, on warm days you can spill onto a decked balcony and eat in the sun. Clean lines, neutral colours, warm materials, a sense of space… this is no holiday-let filled with make-do. On the contrary, it feels like home the moment you arrive. The garden furniture is set out and ready, the wine’s on the table, the barbecue’s in place. There are three patios downstairs as each bedroom has one; bathrooms are white, stylish, and inviting, and the master room has its bathtub next to the bed (extremely à la mode!).

Reviews

Kervihan is a lovely place to stay - the living space is bright and airy and there is a big garden for the children to run around in. We loved sitting on the terrace, looking out over the fields with a coffee, in the peace and quiet. It is rural and fresh with nothing but wood pigeons and the odd tractor for company. Excellent beaches with easy parking are not too far away and the long stretches of sand make them ideal for families. Our children loved playing in the surf and digging in the sand. Vanessa was on hand to help (via email) if we had any issues and always responded quickly.

Just returned from a fabulous stay at this beautiful gite. The house was perfect and in a beautiful and very peaceful setting, with lovely views from every window! The open plan kitchen/dining space/lounge on the first floor is superb - comfortable, relaxed and made for a very sociable experience throughout our holiday. The balcony and seating area directly off the kitchen was also lovely for morning coffee, and a read! The area is beautiful too - so much to do - and the bonus of finding a dog friendly beach for our 2 pooches was very welcome! We would love to come back!

What a beautiful and peaceful place. Spacious, inviting, inspiring - all was there we needed to enjoy, wind down and just relax. So beautiful. I am ready to go back anytime. Yes, its location is remote, but within easy reach to beautiful villages, beaches, walks whatever direction your nose or plan takes you. We enjoyed our stay tremendously. THANKS

the house itself is really nice and very tastefully renovated and furnished. The region is very pretty and a lot of very intersting places are reachable within one hour drive. We would love to come back in autumn or winter, when we could use the fireplace, during our one week the weather was to warm to try that, what a pity. Higly recommended for a relaxing vcaction!

From the moment that you arrive at Kervihan you are enchanted by its beauty and tranquillity. Set in its own rural setting, with views over the surrounding countryside , it is an idyllic place to relax and unwind. The bedrooms are all ensuite which is perfect for families or friends sharing the house. The upstairs open plan kitchen, dining room and lounge is perfect for a relaxing evening and the kitchen has everything that an aspiring chef could possibly require. We would recommend a visit to Concarneau, Roscoff and Locronon for amazing restaurants and lovely shops all within an hour's drive

We enjoyed a very relaxing week in Kervihan. The house was really lovely, a wonderful living space on the first floor, hydrangeas in the front garden and plenty of space to run around if you have children. We enjoyed a day on the coast, Crozon, where the beaches are amazing, a day in Huelgoat which is well worth a visit and were fortunate enough to be there during the Quimper annual festival. Vanessa was the perfect host, nothing was too much trouble.

What can we say about Kervihan, stunning inside and out, everything and more you could posssibly want from a self catering holiday. The inside has to be seen to be believed, great attention to detail, infact when we arrived very tired must have spent an hour just wandering around inside and out and could not stop smiling. An added bonus was the wine which went down very well,'Thankyou' Vannessa ! We will definetely be returning to this amazing property.

We enjoyed our week at the house very much, very peaceful and full of character and very well equipped. We actually wished we had been there for longer instead of using hotels on route - they are not as relaxing - for sure. The house was in just the right location for us near to the interesting little town which we explored on foot several times and had great amenities for its size. We enjoyed looking at the photos of the work you had undertaken and appreciated the fittings and that things all worked.

The house at Kervihan was a real gem, perfectly located for those who want peace and quiet. On the other hand, picturesque French towns, beaches, mountains and cliffs nearby (by car). So you have the best of both Breton worlds. The house is beautifully restored and has all modern conveniences needed. Very special is the open space on the first floor, which combines kitchen and living area. The house also has old features, such as the stable doors to the bathrooms. And a bath tub in the fire place. So cute! In one sentence... you feel at home as soon as you open the front door.

Mirjam

This property has been beautifully restored and makes for an extremely comfortable and inviting holiday stay. The upstairs living and dining area is a great space for families and the outside area perfect for breakfasts. Closest beach for families was less than 25 minutes drive, perfect for surfing and ice creams.

Clare

Lovely secluded property but still within walking distance of amentities. Loads to see in the immediate area including the 'chaos of the rocks' at Huelgoat and Chateau about 10 miles at at Treverez. Coast about 40 minutes to Crozon peninsula which has some wonderful beaches. Lacronan which is officially one of the prettiest villages in France is also about 40 minutes drive.

Local points of interest from Vanessa Roots

  • Riding: Nearby is the Riding School - Domaine de Meros. From here you can enjoy horse riding and all types of equestrian pursuits.
  • Canoeing: In nearby Chateuneuf du Faou waterside pursuits alongside the canal can be enjoyed including canoeing.
  • Walking: The Armorique Regional Park, is an area of outstanding natural beauty and is only a 15 minute drive north of the house. From here you can enjoy breathtaking views and amazing walks.
  • Coast/Beach: Kervihan is only a 20 minute drive west to the Crozon Peninsular. This is one of the most beautiful parts of the Breton coastline and boasts some of the longest, widest stretches of golden sands. Down at Pentrez Plage at St Nic are landyachts.
  • Five minutes in the car is Chateuneuf du Faou; with supermarkets, banks, shops, cafes and restaurants. There is also the Brest to Nante Canal with lovely bike rides or walks along the tow paths. Overlooking the canal is Chateau Trevarez, a medieval castle.
  • Or try Huelgoat, an unspoilt picturesque town situated on a lake with lovey restaurants and bars. But best of all is the Chaos de Rochers a jumble of large boulders to explore surrounded by trees and water feeding nto the lake. Its beautiful, quite unique!
