The Experience

You enter the apartments via a free public car park so there are no stairs to bother with. The feel is bright, smooth and uncluttered and there’s a good deal of space in both with muted colours, upcycled furniture and comfortable seating. Open-plan galley kitchens are sleek and well geared up for proper cooking with plenty of prepping space and basics to get you started.

Light floods in, the views over the river are stunning (especially in winter when the trees are not in leaf) and you have a shared outdoor terrace for morning tea or evening drinks listening to the river rushing past. Bedrooms have beautifully dressed beds and spoiling en suite shower rooms with windows and natural stone flooring. From the terrace you can take a footpath along the river through the Bois d’Amour woods.

Come with another couple and take both spaces, stroll into town for dinner, visit markets and bring delicious fresh food home. It’s peaceful.

Reviews

Such a wonderful place to relax and the enjoy the care that goes into making this quite the loveliest of apartments to stay… live in! We had a week of rain and of joy - Claire your tips and trucs were wonderful and we so enjoyed walking in the Bois in the rain, and Les 3 Buis and La Part des Anges. It’s amazing to be up here, out of the centre, but just to be so close. A haven of peace, great views, great insider knowledge, and great decor. Chapeau! On reviendra.

Paul and Ruth, Winchester

Every time we stay here we love it more! Stylish, sophisticated and charming apartment with wonderful restaurants on the doorstep and superb beaches a short drive away - an unbeatable spot for a holiday. Thank you Claire and John for all your warm and generous hospitality - until next year!

Jane and Roger, Hampshire, UK

This is a beautiful, comfortable space on the heights of Pont-Aven. Settle into the cosy sofa, stretch your legs and gaze at the blue skies overhead, or open the windows to hear the river below. Once you're refreshed, take a stroll to the town centre and explore the winding alleyways and woodland walks, gaze into the windows of the art galleries and enjoy dinner at one of the excellent restaurants.

Location

The neighbourhood

It's easy to ditch the car once you're here with just a five-minute walk to the historic town renowned for artists and the Musée des Beaux-Arts with many interesting exhibitions. Explore shops, galleries, boutiques, and a riverside walk leading to the coast and Port Manech (12km). You can also take boat trips from town, kayak on the river or ride a horse through the quiet countryside.

Local points of interest from Claire Bernard

  • Kermaria is a former 'pension de famille' on the banks of the River Aven. Paul Gauguin painted the view of the neighbouring Moulin David from the opposite side of the river.
  • There are plenty of walks on your doorstep. You can walk from Kermaria along the river and into the woods of the Bois D'Amour. Or you can take the GR34 footpaths downstream and wind past huge boulders and beautiful views all the way to the sea.
  • There is an amazing selection of restaurants a few hundred metres from Kermaria. From traditional creperies, excellent French Bistrots, to the Michelin starred Moulin de Rosmadec.
  • The unspoiled coastline and beautiful white sand beaches are a short drive or pretty cycle ride down small green lanes. It is not hard to find a quiet spot even in the height of summer.
  • If you want to get out on the water, you can hire a kayak, or a sailing dinghy, take an electric boat tour, or a sailing trip or ferry ride to one of the outlying islands.
  • Pont Aven is an artist town. You can visit the Musee de Pont Aven which is connected to the Musee d'Orsay in Paris and has interesting exhibitions. Or visit on of the many artist galleries in town, and maybe take a pottery or an art class.
