The Experience

Immaculately kept and child-friendly – it can be done! Prepare to feel tranquil as you drive through grand stone pillars: eight lovely acres, landscaped to highlight rolling valley views with a big water-lily pond. Juliet and Deane’s combined design skills also created the three super apartments from the enormous barn and made the pigeonnier a special place for two.

Cook in the airy kitchens and dine on the terrace, or let Juliet and Deane cook for you – salmon and asparagus tart and organic cherry pie for dinner along with their own-label Cahors wine, and then pastries and fresh fruit in the morning, brought to you or served in the dining room.

Walk to good restaurants in Ste Livrade or drive 10 minutes to La Commanderie, the former Templar headquarters in Le Temple sur Lot, where Monet also sourced his water lilies. Villeneuve (11km) has Tuesday and Saturday markets.

Reviews

La Maison de Maitre is, without doubt, one of the most exceptional places we have ever stayed. The grounds are immaculate and every need you might have has been thought of by Juliet and Dean. There are lots of pretty places to sit and enjoy the views and the pool is simply stunning. The gardens are lush with fruit trees, elegant cypresses and fragrant lavender bushes. You could easily while away a whole week here without stepping foot outside! We stayed in Patou, the converted pigeon tower, which is beautifully furnished and so pretty. This really is an incredible place - we highly recommend.

Fran, Guildford

Superb place to stay - one of the most beautiful pools I’ve ever seen, stylish accommodation and an incredibly family-friendly welcome. Juliet and Deane are delightful - helpful, discreet and friendly. The gardens are beautiful. Our family of five stayed in Lartigue, the largest of the apartments, and it was great: beautifully decorated, good bathrooms, comfortable beds. Juliet has also managed the COVID situation very well - all is immaculate and well thought through - we felt safe. We would love to return.

Sarah, London

Marvel at the view, and the pleasure of passing from ordinary to special as you enter the gates. The sure design eye of Juliet and Deane's immaculate attention to the garden provide high-level teamwork to create a very special place with a great welcome.

Location

The neighbourhood

Overlooking the Cazeneuve valley, it's a 5-minute drive (25-40 on foot) to 13th-century Ste Livrade sur Lot with its boulangeries, shops and Friday market, and a further 10 minutes to the fine water gardens of Lautour Marliac. For water sports head for the lakes and Lot river beaches. Cycling and walking trails are nearby; Buzet and Duras vineyards are within half an hour.

Local points of interest from Juliet Morley

  • Fantastic gourmet night markets with entertainment almost every night in July/August in the neighboring villages where you can chose from the various hot + cold food stalls, wine sellers + desserts and settle yourself at the trestle tables among the locals
  • Visit the bustling market in our local village every Friday morning all year round. Then there's the Sunday market at Pujols, one of the 'Plus Beaux Village de France' 15 minutes drive away. The organic market at Villeneuve is also well worth a visiting
  • You can enjoy water sports on the picturesque river Lot including faux beaches, river swimming, pedalos, mini-hovercraft, electric boats, canoes and sightseeing boat trips.
  • Local activities are plentiful for all ages including bike hire, horse riding, petting farms, amusement parks, monkey walking in the tree tops, walking + rambling, wine tourism + sightseeing around the numerous hill top bastide towns, chateaux and churches
  • There are some fantastic restaurants in the area including our favorite, the top rated Au Bord de la Source in Sainte Livrade-sur-Lot itself just 5 minutes drive from the property. In fact we have a big list of favorites to share with you!
  • The Lot & Garonne is a truly beautiful region to explore with is undulating hills, plum orchards, vineyards and sunflower fields, it has been dubbed the 'French Tuscany'.
