The Experience

This place is exactly what you need if you’re overtired, burnt out or stressed. The terrace has panoramic views, there’s a super pool for just floating about or resisting the pool current, a yoga studio, a shade shack for a quiet read, an upstairs communal sitting room with a big screen and comfy seating, even a piano to play if you’re inspired.

You will be fed well: breakfast in the dining room – or outdoor terrace – is a feast of fresh breads, yogurts, homemade granola and eggs along with homemade plum jam from the orchards around you; supper is offered four nights a week, with vegetables and tomatoes coming from the owners’ potager, and Sunday night is homemade pizza – worth staying in for. They have an excellent wine cave too.

You sleep in immaculate ground floor bedrooms with king size, well-dressed beds (all can be twins) and contemporary bathrooms with sustainable soaps and lotions. Walks and cycles are from the door – it’s peaceful here.

Reviews

The Old Presbytery is in a beautiful setting amidst organic plum orchards. The picturesque yoga studio, heated swimming pool and gardens, panoramic terrace and comfy salon with a cinema TV screen mean that lazing around eating the home cooked suppers, could be a wonderful and revitalising break. However there is plenty to explore locally too and the electric bikes are the perfect way to travel.

Location

The neighbourhood

In spring the organic plum orchards froth with blossom, in autumn you can pick the fallen fruit. You're just a few kilometres from the Dordogne river for restaurants and canoe hire, walks and cycles will be sublime and there are plenty of wineries and châteaux to visit. Sainte-Foy-la-Grande is 5km for shops, restaurants, the Saturday market and a train station linking Bordeaux and Bergerac.

Local points of interest from Wayne Horo

  • Visit the Sainte-Foy-la-Grande Food Market every Saturday morning or the Night Market every Thursday evening throughout the summer.
  • We work with several local vineyards who offer tours in english and tasting with some offering lunch and dinner that's served in idylic surroundings.
  • Eat like a local from casual brasseries to michelin star restaurants with recommendations from Wayne and David.
  • Walking and cycling maps of the area are available and we are located on the Compestala route. There are 4 electric bikes for our guests to use at no charge to explore the french countryside and bastide towns.
  • Local activities include kayaking on the Dordogne river, world class Golf resort with three courses and 27 holes for the experienced golfer or beginner, Sothys Spa and pottery classes.
  • Visit Saint Emilion, a UNESCO World heritage site and the most beautiful medieval town in our region.

Introducing

Wayne Horo

Such warm and friendly hosts, David and Wayne make staying here a joy. They both abandoned corporate careers when they fell in love with this house. They've restored it sensitively and are mindful of the planet, have installed solar panels, have a no waste policy and try to use local and sustainable products as much as possible. They offer sanctuary from the hectic pace of modern life.
