The Experience

It’s a beautiful house full of interesting things: vintage pieces, some funky rugs and pictures, clever use of colour and an Asian twist. You’re free to use the sitting room with its soft sofas, books and games, or wander into the kitchen to chat to the owners and nab a cup of tea or coffee at any time – it’s that sort of place and you’ll feel very much at home.

Bedrooms (one on the ground floor, two upstairs) are light and large, with garden views, huge beds dressed in French linen and all have en suite showers with delicious soaps and shampoo. Breakfast is worth getting up for: saucissons from the local butcher, homemade yogurts and jams, the freshest bread and always a home-baked cake or tart. Tapas is available during the day and dinner can be booked in advance.

Help yourself to a drink from the honesty bar or fridge and head to the garden for a quiet snooze, a cool-off in the pool or simply to watch spectacular sunsets.

Reviews

Guillaume and Pierre-Louis are generous in sharing their beautiful home with guests. The care that goes into ensuring that guests have a unique experience is evident from the care put into the rooms, the communal areas, the food and drink and hospitality provided. The location means that whether staying in or going out, there is plenty for everyone to enjoy.

Location

The neighbourhood

The immediate surroundings are very rural so walks will be sublime and there's a cave nearby, Pair-non-Pair, which has some of the oldest cave art in the world. Blaye, a fortified town, is about 15 minutes by car and here you'll find shops and restaurants. Bourg is 8km and is on the estuary so in summer there are lots of riverside attractions including a guinguette and independent shops.

Local points of interest from Guillaume Raboutet

  • Walk around the UNESCO listed fortress in Blaye, dating back from the 17th century built to protect Bordeaux. As you stroll through the citadel, discover breathtaking views of the Gironde Estuary, before enjoying a glass of wine in the locals restaurants.
  • You surely come to Bordeaux for its vineyards. Drive or bike through the hilly roads of the Blaye and Bourg vineyards before heading to the iconic Saint Emilion area, less than an hour drive.
  • The Bordeaux wine museum is definetely a must do ! And certainly do not miss the wine tasting at the end, paired with a splendid view over the UNESCO classified city of Bordeaux !
  • Come share our table for a surprise dinner ; after living 10 years in Asia, we will bring asian influences to traditional french cuisine. If the ingredients are not locally sourced, they will surely come from our garden !
  • For a full day excursion, why not visit the eclectic city of Royan via the scenic riverside road ? A seafood platter faceing the ocean before aheading back home for a dip in the pool !
  • Continue a little further down south of Bordeaux to stroll around the legendary "Bassin d'Arcachon", discover Cap Ferret or climb the extraordinary Dune du Pilat, Europe highest sand dune !

Introducing

Guillaume Raboutet

Guillaume is the 6th generation of his family to live on the property. He and Pierre-Louis do all the cooking themselves and love entertaining guests. They lived in Hong Kong for 10 years so you'll notice an Asian influence in the decorations and the food. They renovated the house completely to create a perfect sanctuary and are always on hand to help make your holiday the best ever.
