The Experience
Both couples and families with children will be happy in these spaces, with room to spread out both inside and out. Interiors are authentic with wooden floors, ancient beams, white walls and terracotta tiled floors. Kitchens have all the gear plus basics for cooking and you’re left bread, homemade jams, milk, butter and a bottle of wine from the local vineyard.
The pool is safely fenced and you have all the rose-filled gardens to roam as well as your own private outdoor terraces for sunny breakfasts or cooler, shady meals during the heat of the day. You’ll only hear birdsong and the occasional honk from the owners’ geese.
It’s a short hop to a good bakery for your morning croissants and there are many cafés and restaurants. In season you can enjoy fresh produce from the garden.

Our second stay at La Maison des Demoiselles and this time our friend came along too and stayed in the pretty La Maison du Pacanier. I felt inspired to write another review as our stay was exceptional. Tranquil days, visits to local markets, fun and relaxing times in the pool all topped off by having wonderful hosts. My friend summed up the properties perfectly: ‘The detail Pascaline and Chris have put into the holiday accommodation they have created is amazing’. A charming French haven indeed. 😊

We found this gite to be a rural gem! So beautifully and tastefully converted/furnished - set in gorgeous grounds, it has a peaceful ambience, a perfect pool and our family experienced our time there as a much needed retreat. The nearby towns are very pretty with plenty to do to suit all tastes. Little touches enhanced our experience on arrival such as finding fresh/home made items in the kitchen! The icing on the cake came on meeting Pascaline and Chris, the perfect hosts - so welcoming and on hand to answer any questions, yet so discreet. We all felt very sad to leave.

Bonjour Chris & Pascaline Autumn is well established in UK but we remember fondly our time at La Maison Desmoiselles. You will receive a warm & helpful greeting from the owners - made extra special with the home-made jam, tomatoes and fresh herbs, all delivered with a discreet touch by your hosts. The house & gardens are relaxing & comfortable in a stunning area of France, wonderful pool & games. You are encased in a vineyard, with hills and beauty all around you. Supermarket & bakery are nearby with cycling, canoeing, markets, restaurants & afternoon tea. Visit Duras Castle, Issigeac, Eymet

We enjoyed a superb two week family holiday here. The location amongst the vines is special and very inspiring. It was lovely to meet Pascaline, Chris and family; they were excellent hosts, always friendly and helpful but not intrusive. The homemade goodies on arrival and fresh vegetables from Chris's garden were much appreciated. There was plenty of entertainment for our 6 year old , with games indoor and out and of course a fantastic pool. Days out to chateaux, bastides, vineyards, canoeing on the Dordogne, followed by moonlit patio meals and comfortable beds - formidable!

In a former wine estate, these Anglo-French owners, Pascaline and Chris have created a charming cottage surrounded by acres of vines and woodland. Wine lovers will enjoy the location and setting, gardeners will adore the 'roseraie' and kitchen garden.

Location
The neighbourhood
Other than the owners' house, the pool house and an old winery there aren't any other buildings in sight. The nearest bakery is Villeneuve-de-Duras, a five-minute drive. There's a good place to eat at the local golf club in Le Vigier (15 mins). Lots of local wineries offer food and wine tastings during the summer. Bergerac is half an hour and Saint-Émilion 45 minutes.
Local points of interest from Pascaline Piechaud
- Our village Riocaud (“warm stream” in patois) is on the border of Gironde and Lot et Garonne and offers many lovely walks through the vineyards and woods.
- Duras is 9 kilometers away, a charming place with a fine chateau towering over the countryside. It has a good market on Monday and plenty of events. There are markets in many of the local Bastide towns, St Foy, Eymet, Issigeac all a fairly easy drive.
- Fifteen minutes drive will take you to the Chateau de Vigiers with a fine golf course, a bistro and a Michelin starred restaurant. There are many other good restaurants within easy reach.
- The whole area is covered with vineyards with many Chateaux worth a visit, and a tasting. The Grand Cru of St Emilion is a pleasant 45 minute drive away.
- The beautiful Dordogne river lies just 9 kilometers away, St Foy being the nearest point. There, or at many idyllic spots further up the river you can hire a kayak for a 2 hour or day long paddle down stream!
- If you are feeling idle then just stay at home and enjoy the pool or play various games, ping pong, croquet, boules are all available. Beyond the croquet lawn stands a magnificent Pecan tree, the largest in Europe, 5 meters 40 cm circumference, a Beauty!

Introducing
Pascaline Piechaud
Pascaline (originally from Paris but with Bordeaux winemaking ancestors) and Chris (a retired UK barrister who has lived in France for many years) bought this former wine estate to concentrate on converting the gites and because they have a passion for gardening, particularly roses, which grow everywhere. The old fermenting vats now contain well water for the irrigation of the gardens.
We have had the best time in la maison du Pacanier! The house was immaculate, really as we where the first guests. Pascaline and Chris make you feel at home and are the perfect hosts. We will be back!
