The Experience

Inside has a lovely, uncluttered simplicity. On the ground floor is the kitchen with plenty of basics for cooking and a welcome hamper with estate-produced wine, grape juice, eggs and fruit and veg in season. The dining room is cosy with a wood-burner (logs provided) and the upstairs sitting room has a TV, games, books and toys as well as a sofa bed for extra bods. You can rent the events barn for a wedding or a family party.

Bedrooms (one downstairs with views over the garden, two upstairs) share the downstairs shower room and there’s an extra loo upstairs. One of the doubles is big enough to house an extra single and all are comfortable and quiet. On sunny days you can spend your time in the large garden with mature trees, picnic in the vines or cool off in the unheated pool.

Book a free wine tour and tasting, say hello to chickens, cats and horses, play pétanque or badminton, light the barbecue and enjoy long summer suppers.

Reviews

The Carsin Cottage welcome is open and friendly, and you will be made to feel part of the property – having a first-hand view of all the goings-on from the door of the cottage. The freedom to roam the vineyards and woods, pluck fruit from the trees in season, or relax outside by the pool or in the garden with a glass of organic wine produced on the doorstep makes for a perfect relaxing holiday.

Location

The neighbourhood

The cottage sits in the deep peace of the Gironde countryside and there are lots of gorgeous walks and cycles. The hamlet of Rions is 2km for a restaurant which opens in summer and sometimes at weekends. Cadillac is 3km and is a charming town with several places to eat, boulangeries, a fromagerie and a wine bar. Catch the train to Bordeaux from Cerons, 7km, and be there in 20 mins.

Local points of interest from Nea Berglund

  • Cadillac farmers market is a must visit on a Saturday morning. This village is about 3km away and has restaurants, bars, cinema, museum, pharmacies, florists, butcher's shop, cheese shop, wine shop and almost anything you could hope from a small village.
  • Rions is our town, we're located on the hills of this medieval village. Beautiful place to wonder around the small cobblestone streets, but very quiet. A great restaurant Georges is in town (reservation needed) and a pub Cercle Populaire is open on weekends.
  • Saint Emilion is probably the most beautiful and known wine villages of the world. Enjoy the spectacular view, dozens of artisan shops and wine caves and have a delicious meal in this town. Cloitre des Closieres is a must visit - picnic hampers available.
  • Arcachon/Dune du Pyla/Cap Ferret. The Atlantic Ocean is about 1,5h car ride away, and we have Europe's biggest sand dune there. Either visit the dune and/or Arcachon town, or go to the other side (Cap Ferret) and enjoy oysters and dry white wine from afar.
  • Bordeaux city center is hip and international, enjoy the old town for restaurants and shops, check out Chartrons for antiques and cozy cafés, visit the Cité du Vin -wine musem and the food market just next to it, Bacalan. The river boat rides also fun!
  • Saint Croix du Mont is a charming village on top of a hill, park your car next to the church and take the few steps down to find the 22-million-year-old oyster fossils. The view is spectacular and during summer evenings there's a bar serving local wines.

Introducing

Nea Berglund

Nea's Finnish family bought the estate in 1990 and her father ran it before her. Nea took a master’s course in oenology so that she could take over the business full time which she has converted to fully organic. She lives in the beautiful master house and is hands on with all aspects of the business, from growing to sales. She loves to share her knowledge with guests.
