The Experience

Splash in the large pool, spread out over three outdoor seating areas or have a game of ping pong or volleyball – children will love family holidays here – and if you’re a large party you can take the next door barn too (both have their own entrances). The village, a 20-minute walk, is beautiful, there are excellent restaurants within walking distance including the Michelin star Le Vieux Logis. Hikers and cyclists will be happy in the wonderful hills for miles – there are bikes available or stroll 30 minutes to the river beach for canoeing, swimming and boating. Set off to markets at Le Bugue, Périgueux and Bergerac – but the Sarlat market on Saturdays is the best. Return to the large kitchen, very well-equipped with good coffee makers and lots of space for preparation. The master bedroom is large, the others (two downstairs and one upstairs) are smaller so no ruffled feathers please – sort ahead! A welcoming sitting room with exposed stone walls is a grand place to escape to and read quietly.

Reviews

The Cottage is very nicely appointed building which provides a lovely holiday space within easy reach of a very pretty French town whilst also feeling in the countryside.

Had a beautiful stay in les chouettes, the courage and the barn were stunning, clean and well equipped. There was plenty to do in the local area. Our host Karen was lovely and ensured we had everything we needed for our stay. Would definitely stay again!

Absolutely amazing trip, I planned my engagement in tremolat France. She said yes! The beautiful setting helped make it so memorable and special. Long walks through the French country side to eating great food at every restaurant and market we visited.

We had an incredible stay at Les Chouettes! The cosy, rural setting was the perfect backdrop for my partner and I to get engaged - I couldn’t think of a more beautiful place to make such special memories in. We also immersed ourselves in village life during our stay - attending a local hiking group for a stunning viewpoint trail walk along the Dordogne river, visiting local farmers markets and dining in local restaurants. It is the perfect place for foodies and activity seekers! The accommodation was clean and inviting, and Karen gave us so many recommendations to make the trip memorable.

We had such a fun holiday staying here! Wish we had more time but such a beautiful part of the world. The host, Karen was amazing and made everything so easy for us. The accommodation was immaculate. We will def be going back next year.

This is a lovely house, carefully looked after by its owner, Karen Carter. It's quite extensive and it's very well equipped. The living room was acceptably cool during a real heatwave, and the excellent swimming pool was great then too (as at all other times). Kitchen and dining arrangements were generous, there were bikes to borrow, floats and toys for the pool. It's close to interesting villages and all the pleasurable attractions of the river. We could only book it for 6 nights. We'd've liked longer.

Beautiful location in the middle of the rural south west, perfect for a retreat in a gorgeous property. Large and beautiful garden area with outdoor pool and dipping pool, next to a stunning walnut orchard. Great fireplace for creating a cosy feel. Amazing restaurants, hikes and cycle paths right on the doorstep.

Lucy, London

Such a lovely location to holiday. So much to see and do !! Markets, Castles and Chateaux's. Beautiful countryside for bicycle rides or evening strolls. The cottage is so comfortable with plenty of space for indoor or outdoor breakfast, lunch or dinner. The most comfortable beds and soft linen give a wonderful nights rest. There is also a fully equipped kitchen and cozy lounge area for the colder evenings. Karen and Alan are wonderful hosts and were available for all our needs and advice. Stunning wine area and Michelin Star restaurant close by for those who love their wine and food.

Linda, East London

An exceptional visit. Picturesque accommodation offering the most comfortable beds layered with fresh white linen - fluffy new white towels, plenty of hot water for showering. A well stocked kitchen. We relaxed on the cool covered patio, sipping coffee in the morning contemplating our next adventure and flopped down in the cozy stone lounge at the end of the day listening to the owls in the field behind. Tremolat is well positioned with good signposted roads leading out to the adjacent towns, villages, chateaus and markets. We didn't want to leave!

Petta, East London

I had the pleasure of spending three weeks staying at the gorgeous Les Chouettes Cottage in Tremolat. I cannot recommend the experience enough. The accommodation was beautiful. From the second you step through the door you are absorbed in the rural French lifestyle. With beautifully designed bedrooms and amenities, it is the ideal place if you are looking to escape with your family or want a relaxing getaway with a group of friends. Karen Carter, the owner, ensured all our needs were met throughout our stay. 10/10. Cannot wait to visit again!

Lucy, London

Lovely cottage in a brilliant location! A short drive from so many cultural and foodie attractions. Excellent place for groups as there is a large entertainment area with a pool to cool off in during the hot summer days.

Nathan, London

Great experience! I had my doubts about going in October, but there was still so much to do! First class dinning at your door step, going on long peaceful walks/ bike rides in the country, taking the day to go wine tasting and exploring the old French towns are just some of the things we did. At the end of the day coming home to a warm fire and spending time enjoying the authentic French décor with our wine and cheese, is just the relaxing we needed to escape.

Local points of interest from Karen Carter

  • Tremolat Village is only a 20 minute walk away. It is the home to the 11 Century Church of St Nicolas. It is host to 4 wonderful restaurants - Le Vieux Logis famous for its Michelin star, a bistro, a quaint wine bar, Pizzeria, Epicerie and a Boulangerie.
  • The Cingle to Tremolat attracts many visitors. This is the bend in the river that gives rise to some beautiful views. If you are energetic you can climb or cycle to the top. It certainly is the most wonderful spot for a picnic.
  • Nearby villages such as Paunat and its Abbey church was built in the 12th Century is a must to visit. Chez Julian is a well known fabulous restaurant. My favourite village is the Bastide Limeuil on the banks of where the Dordogne and Vezzere Rivers meet.
  • If you are a golfer we have any fabulous golf courses in easy reach of Les Chouettes we can direct you in any direction. Our favourite is at Chateau les Merles at Tuilliers.
  • The Dordogne valley is notorious for is beautiful chateaux, castles, wonderful markets where one can buy delicious fresh ingredients to create a lovely meal at the end of any day. We can organise a tour to the chateau wineries or a home tasting.
  • There are many annual festivals from Truffle, Foie gras, Chocolate, Wine, Mushroom and many summer festivals. Come and visit the history the area has to offer such as the 100years war- Beynac et Cazenac, Castlenaud, Sarlat-la-Caneda and many more.
