The Experience
Gather the clans for a jolly self-catering holiday with family or friends, with plenty of space for all just 1.5km from the village. There are two pools, one large, one better for a plunge and you can spread out into several outdoor eating areas with pretty gardens to read quietly or watch the many birds. A large kitchen in the cottage and a smaller one in the open-plan barn has prepping space and all the equipment you need – you’ll also find some treats waiting for you.
Bedrooms (some downstairs, some up) are attractive, with well-dressed beds and super views over the gardens with its mature trees and lawns. Bathrooms have large modern showers; the barn has a proper bath for walk-weary legs. Wander through acres of countryside, cycle quiet lanes, visit superb markets to stock up.
The three outdoor covered seating areas are perfect for long lazy lunches or al fresco suppers while the sun goes down and children play safely – it’s a grand place for families.

Location
The neighbourhood
The village, a 20-minute walk, has excellent restaurants including Michelin-starred Le Vieux Logis and the owners' three restaurants and a wine bar. Hikers and cyclists will be happy in the hills for miles – bikes available, or stroll 30 minutes to the river beach. Set off to the markets at Le Bugue, Périgueux, Issigeac and Bergerac – but the Sarlat market on Saturdays is not to be missed.
Local points of interest from Karen Carter
- Trémolat village is just a 20-minute walk away. It is home to the 11th-century Church of St Nicolas, and also has four wonderful restaurants: Michelin-starred Le Vieux Logis, a bistro, a quaint wine bar and a pizzeria – plus an épicerie and boulangerie.
- The Cingle de Trémolat attracts many visitors – this is the bend in the river that gives rise to some beautiful views. If you are energetic you can climb or cycle to the top. The garden at the Restaurant Belvedere has the most spectacular views.
- The nearby village of Paunat is a must visit, its Abbey church was built in the 12th century. Chez Julian is a well-known fabulous restaurant. My favourite village is the Bastide Limeuil, where the Dordogne and Vezzere Rivers meet.
- There are many wonderful golf courses in easy reach of Les Chouettes, we can direct you in any direction. Our favourite is at Château les Merles at Tuilliers.
- The Dordogne valley is famous for is beautiful châteaux. It also has wonderful markets where you can buy delicious fresh ingredients to create a lovely meal at the end of any day. We can organise a tour to the châteaux wineries or a home tasting.
- There are many annual festivals from Truffle, Foie gras, Chocolate, Wine, Mushroom and many summer festivals. Come and discover the history the area has to offer such as the 100 years war – Beynac et Cazenac, Castlenaud, Sarlat-la-Caneda and many more.
