The Experience

An upside down house with a very private feel: the owners are on site but looking the other way and there are no other guests. You have the run of the swimming pool with wooden deck and loungers in the pretty garden surrounded by mature trees. On less than sunny days use the large play barn for ping pong, a reading corner full of books, a comfy seating area and doors which bring the outside in.

Hire bikes (or bring your own) and head off into La Forêt de la Double or walk along trails through peaceful countryside. Check Margaret’s information board for restaurant recommendations: you’ll find basics for cooking and a welcome hamper in the sociable open-plan kitchen with a bottle of wine and local produce; stock up in Le Pizou, ten minutes by car.

Fire up the barbecue on your south facing terrace, open a bottle of local wine and let the children have (yet another) swim or play a game of football in the field. This is a quiet and safe place.

Reviews

This is the third time we have stayed at Gite Le Bost. There’s a reason we keep coming back! The setting is just beautiful. Far enough away from hustle and bustle that you can truly unwind. Yet, a short drive to top up on groceries. So many wonderful vineyard to visit and about 35 mins away from the absolutely stunning St. Emillion. The hosts Rod and Margaret have thought of absolutely everything. The pool is perfect for a family and the grounds offer so much to do, whatever your age! Thoroughly recommend. Can’t wait to return!

Truly wonderful break - the perfect French summer holiday. From the moment we arrived we felt at home; the Gite is well equipped with everything we needed. The garden and pool simply made the experience for the children (and us!). Nice things to do in the local area. And Rod & Nan gave us some great local tips of what to do. Thank you!

We had a wonderful stay at Gite Le Bost. The hosts Margaret and Rod have thought of absolutely everything, a real home from home. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The facilities are perfect. Margaret and Rod made great recommendations of restaurants, markets and activities. We visited numerous markets, St Emillion, went on bike rides and swam in the beautiful pool every day. The best holiday we’ve had for years. We will return!

We had a wonderful stay at Gite le Bost with our two young children. A beautiful, peaceful setting surrounded by the forests of the Perigord but with great markets an easy drive away. A paradise for children with a fantastic heated pool and tons of games and activities to play in the spacious garden and barn. Warm and friendly welcome from the hosts Margaret and Rod who have made this a very special place to stay.

Emmanuel, Lyon

I'd imagine an idyllic day walking or cycling through the countryside, lazing by the pool, soaking up the silence, with a table tennis championship and petanque competition in the evening. And if it's too warm or too wet, escaping to the barn to play games and chill out. Perfect family times.

Location

The neighbourhood

You're in a very rural spot, deep in the Périgord Blanc. Cycling or walking in the forest here is a joy. You can hire a canoe and take a trip down the river Isle or visit historical towns for superb architecture and authentic markets. You're just 15 mins from the towns of Montpon-Ménestérol and La Roche-Chalais, and just over an hour to Bordeaux and Bergerac.

Local points of interest from Margaret & Rod Thorpe

  • This is a great place to cycle from - we can give you details of a firm that delivers and collects bikes right to our door, or you can bring your own. There is a secure bike shed available for your use.
  • The local area offers an array of interesting towns and villages, with bars, restaurants and weekly markets to explore. We'll be pleased to share our recommendations with you.

Introducing

Margaret & Rod Thorpe

Margaret (a retired teacher) and Rod (an engineer) live on site and you will see them from time to time - they often ask guests over for an apero on their first evening and if you book in advance Margaret might cook supper for you. But mostly they'll leave you to get on with your holiday unless you need anything. If bridges are your thing ask Rod about Eiffel's bridges in the area.
