The Experience
You’re a few fields from the sandy coastline and in the middle of the Fallodon Estate. The main house is perfect for bringing family and friends: children will adore the play area in the garden, TVs in every bedroom, the piano, pool and table football in the games room; grown-ups will love having two sitting rooms and a snug, two kitchens perfectly equipped (one with an Aga), a drinks room with cocktail-making kit, and large bedrooms.
The cottages – completely separate – are comfy and light with pretty terraces, and one has a large garden overlooking the babbling burn. The owners live nearby and leave you a hamper with bread, fruit, bacon, milk, wine and a newspaper.
There are 2000 acres of estate to explore with maps provided for farm walks. You’re near Alnwick and its famous garden and Bamburgh for castles and dunes, tracks for cycling (hire bikes in Alnwick) and riding – even stabling for your horse. Bring rods for fishing on the lake.

Location
The neighbourhood
Bike or walk around the estate. It's just a two mile walk to Newton-by-the-Sea, a village with a good pub, sandy beaches for sailing, kite and windsurfing and famous views across Embleton Bay to Dunstanburgh Castle. Alnwick is eight miles and has a farmers' market once a month and the fabulous Barter Books. Hadrian's Wall, the Northumberland National Park and Holy Island are all within easy reach.
Local points of interest from Mark & Lucia Bridgeman
- On wet days browse through the hundreds of books and sit in front of a cosy coal fire in Barter Books, the famous second-hand bookshop in the old railway station in Alnwick.
- On hot days walk along the empty coastline from Craster, past the ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle, to the Ship Inn at Low Newton.
- Walk some of St Cuthbert's Way to Holy Island, across the causeway. Visit the birds and seals of the Farne Islands by taking a boat from Seahouses.
- Great places to eat close by: The Ship at Low Newton, The Pack Horse in Ellingham, Shoreline Cafe in Craster, Earl Grey Tearooms at Howick, Doxford Hall, The Jolly Fisherman in Craster, or The Potted Lobster in Bamburgh.
- Surf at Bamburgh Beach under the looming Bamburgh Castle.
- Wander through large well-known gardens such as Alnwick and Cragside, or the famous arboretum at Howick, or beautiful, more intimate private gardens such as Mindrum.

Introducing
Mark & Lucia Bridgeman
Mark and Lucia live in the Hall on the estate, which has been in their family since 1946. They farm organically and keep Aberdeen Angus cattle and sheep on the fields too. Lucia, and Chris the manager are on hand should you need anything, but otherwise you're completely independent.
We have just returned from a week at Garden Cottage where we stayed with our two Border Collies. The cottage was equipped to the highest standard with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Within a short drive to a number of stunning beaches this cottage is ideal for an away from it all holiday.
