The Experience
The sort of place you’ll be congratulating yourselves on booking. There’s masses of space and the light simply pours in, as do the spectacular views: on clear days you’ll see Cadair Idris, the Berwyn Hills and even Mount Snowdon sixty miles away. The kitchen is designed for convivial cooking with a huge table for chopping or chatting, a range cooker and a built in wine and beer cooler. Fresh flowers, eggs from the farm hens, and a handpicked selection of local produce will be waiting.
On rainy days you can settle down with books, board games or telly in front of the wood-burner, but hardy walkers will be striding out. Join Offa’s Dyke Path nearby or tackle Cadair Idris. Return to supremely comfortable bedrooms (one downstairs with a wet room is fully accessible) each with their own quirky characters.
The garden has a massive barbecue, an oak beam canopy with decorative lights and a hot tub with grand views.

This is our second time staying at the Whitehall Dairy and we couldnʼt have enjoyed our stay more. Every aspect has been meticulously thought about and the quality is exceptional....Every room is sparkling clean and every requirement catered for. We loved the outdoor hot tub and kitchen area it takes the holiday experience to another level. Alex and Jackie were extremely attentive hosts and we found their response time very quick. We love this area of Wales and will hopefully return a third time!

What a fabulous property in a beautiful location. The beds are so comfortable, and the underfloor heating just perfect. We all loved the hot tub and spent some time each evening resting our aching bones. The kitchen has lots of pots, pans and utensils. We talked, laughed, played games, read, ate and drank. Amazing family time!

A wonderful few days spent in Wales. The dairy was perfect, a great conversion. Inside it was lovely and cosy, even though outside it was freezing. Beautiful views from every room and surrounded by great countryside. A huge bonus was the hot tub, many laughs had on a frozen evening. All round a super stay.

We had a family get together here with ages of us ranging from 1 year to 90 years of age. We all had a fantastic break here, the dairy is set in a fabulous landscape with ducks, geese and chickens on site. The facilities are all you could wish for and catered for all ages, very well appointed and very comfortable. The owners are very kind and considerate, would strongly recommend a stay here to anyone.

The dream location. Such a magic place for wholesome living, and reconnecting. Surrounded by fields with a wonderful view. Alex is a fantastic host, he always gave us extra- whether that be fresh eggs or wine or letting us feed the horses. Inside the house is done beautifully, in fact Iʼve taken a few design ideas from there for my own home. The hot tub really was the cherry on top. Thank you Alex!

3 generations (6 adults & 3 children) celebrating an 80th Birthday. Whitehall Dairy with its 5 double bedrooms was perfect and full of character. Lots of space to spread out - very comfy seating areas and everything we needed in the kitchen. An extra treat was finding eggs, bread, wine & chilli jam when we arrived. Monopoly and Badminton, a long walk, hot tub, visit to Powis Castle, and very good food at the Dragon Hotel. The view from the house is stunning. Problem with hot water was fixed within minutes. Thank you Alex & Jackie for providing the perfect venue for a special family celebration

An excellent property located in one of the most picture perfect spots of Wales. Well positioned to get to beaches within an hour and beautiful village of Montgomery at the doorstep. But most importantly Alex and Jackie are fab hosts. Our kids couldn’t get enough of the animals. We could just stay put all day with walks , hot tub and animals. Can’t wait to get back:)

What a wonderful place! A fabulous secluded location with sweeping views and equally as impressive inside. A creative restoration with great spaces and sympathetically done to reflect the building’s history. A fantastic place to spend time whether in the hot tub, seeking out a quiet corner to read or simply to sit in the lounge with a cocktail drinking in the view. Would love to go back and am telling everyone who will listen how lovely it was.

Whitehall Dairy will remain in our memories as the most idyllic countryside visit in many years of travel in the UK . Apart from the pleasures of the wonderfully restored barn, the broad views over the Vale of Montgomery, and the ducks, geese, guinea hens, and other assorted animals, the friendliness of the owners made our loved by all my family. A perfect place for hiking and just roaming the Marches.

Very impressed with what Alex and Jackie have achieved here in turning a dilapidated barn into a super stylish, deeply welcoming and comfortable property. After a long view-filled walk return to cook well and talk much - a soak in the hot tub will limber you up. In or outside you will drink in views that can reach 60 miles to Snowdon's peak. There is much to do from this rural eyrie. A total gem.

Location
The neighbourhood
Either way you approach it is dramatic - on top of the ridge you are at 1,000 feet. The feeling is remote but you have the owners just behind and there's another farm down the lane. Montgomery is a five-minute drive: a delightful small town with a Michelin-starred restaurant, a good pub and a ruined castle. Explore Powis Castle, Lake Vyrnwy and Roundton Hill - an iron age hill fort.
Local points of interest from Jackie & Alex Matthews
- Pull on your walking boots, fire up the hot tub and set off on a circular walk (with plenty to choose from). In Spring daffodils line the quiet lanes and wildflowers are a plenty along the verges in Summer, far reaching views make every walk special.
- Explore the nearby hills, our favourite is Roundton, but there's plenty of choice for walking and cycling routes published by Montgomery Trails. Enjoy a well-earned pint of Monty's prize winning ale at The Cottage or Dragon in Montgomery afterwards.
- There are lots of great pubs nearby serving delicious meals. If you fancy a real treat Checker's pantry offer a take home option or pick up a selection of tapas from Shed38. Pop into Montgomery on market day for a coffee and browse in the famous Bunners.
- Montgomery sits in the Anglo-Welsh borderlands with plenty of castles and Offa’s dyke nearby. The Welsh prince Llywelyn the Great built Castell y Bere. In response to his growing power Henry III built Montgomery castle. Dolforwyn Castle is also a favourite
- You're an hour's stunning drive from the coast (or jump on the train). You have the choice of long empty stretches of sand at Ynyslas or if you prefer pretty seaside towns choose from Aberdovey or Barmouth. Stop off at the ospreys or Ynys hir on your way.
- For the more adventurous head up to the Long Mynd for a gliding lesson. Have a picnic, fly kites, pick bilberries amongst the wild ponies, stop off in The Bridges. If powered flight is more your thing book a helicopter ride at Welshpool airport.

Introducing
Jackie & Alex Matthews
Alex and Jackie bought Whitehall Farm in 2012 and since then they've been working on the renovation of their house and the Dairy. The farm has a long history and some interesting previous owners - it's much smaller than it used to be, but they run the 8 acres and barns as a smallholding with a few ponies, sheep, ducks, geese, chickens, cats, dogs and 'anything else that turns up' they say.
We didnʼt want to leave! Everything about the place is beautiful and cosy! The views are unreal and the hosts are incredible
