The Experience
It’s a real treat to have such a stylish and serene house so close to all the town’s best bits. By keeping things simple and pared back, owner Pierson and his partner have created a great feeling of space – even if you fill the place up, there are still friendly little corners inside and out where you can read or relax.
The beautiful walled garden is kept in check by a weekly visit from a gardener: the lawn’s a great spot for lounging with a book and the flagged courtyard has table and chairs for outdoor banquets. If the weather doesn’t do its duty, there’s enough room for everyone to eat at the light-filled dining table.
Browse the overflowing book shops, visit one of the best butchers, enjoy a pint and a people-watch or hire a canoe for the Wye. Return to much comfort and a generous welcome hamper.

We had a wonderful stay at Sycamore house. We were a family of 9 people and we had plenty of room to relax and hang out together, in a super-stylish, well designed and comfortable house. The kitchen was so well equipped which pleased the keen cooks in our family. The garden is immaculate and location is perfect. It's basically my dream house!

Had a wonderful few days at Sycamore House. As the weather was good we much enjoyed the beautiful garden and eating outside. The house is light, spacious and characterful with much to enjoy in the provision of super comfy beds and nice bathrooms. Set right in the heart of the town and a short walk from the River Wye it makes a perfect base for book shopping and the great outdoors. A nice amount of space for a large group gathering. Thanks for a great stay.

We had a perfect stay at Sycamore house in Hay to see in the new year. The house was immaculately kept and was very homely and cosy, the kitchen was excellent and well equipped to cater to cook for our group and the two living rooms were great places to relax in the evenings. Hay is in a great position to explore the countryside nearby and the town itself is lovely to walk around.

Sycamore House is a wonderful space. The photos do not do justice to the relaxed ambience of the house, garden and furnishings. Hay itself is a wonderful town and you are opposite The Old Electric Shop, which is a really interesting place. You can canoe, cycle and hike virtually from the front door. The beds are super cosy after a day of physical exertion!! A perfect place to unwind and chill, for all ages.

We had a wonderful family get together at this beautiful house. Everything has been thought of - for our party of nine it was the perfect place to spread out and unwind. Hay is lovely little town and the surrounding countryside is beautiful. We will hopefully be back soon.

Sycamore House is simply superb. The location is ideal and the house itself is stunning. The interior design strikes the perfect balance between contemporary and homely and the little touches such as Roberts DAB radios in every room and the lovely local toiletries really make it. There's plenty of room for eight people - the kitchen is capacious and easily fits everyone for a meal - and all the bedrooms are well proportioned. The garden is large and delightful too! We will definitely return. 10 out of 10.

Location
The neighbourhood
You’re in the Hay sweet spot here – five minutes’ walk from glorious open country, the River Wye and the thrills of canoe rental in one direction, and in the other all the characterful little deli’s, antique shops, restaurants, pubs, and bookshops you can shake a stick at – with an indie cinema thrown in for good measure. You can spend days here just pottering happily. If it all becomes too much, a half-hour drive gets you to Brecon for a detox.
Local points of interest from Pierson
- Discover Hay on Wye. Enjoy rummaging the shelves of the town’s countless bookshops or visit during the festival when writers from around the globe descend for literary events! Pick up local produce at Hay's weekly market or wander the old castle grounds!
- Enjoy the pleasures of the River Wye. Wild swim in the summer at local meadow and beach, the Warren, 15 mins walk from the house; get active and canoe the river from Glasbury to Hay with a picnic in hand; or fish for your supper at local angling spots!
- Discover the Black Mountains. Drive the Gospel Pass, a scenic route through the hills (& the highest road in Wales!) to the stunningly situated Llanthony Priory. Walk in the footsteps of 12th century monks before lunch at the pub built into the old ruins.
- Climb Hay’s Bluff for both a sense of achievement & wonderful views. Look out for the wild ponies that graze on the hillside. Alternatively, explore the mountains on a half day’s pony trek with a trusty companion! (no experience needed).
- Get on your bike - hills or valley it’s up to you. Enjoy a leisurely cycle to the Tram Inn in Eardisley though beautiful countryside and over the toll bridge at Whitney (free for cyclists!) or head into the Black Mountains to get your muscles flexing!
- Visit Hereford to see the world's largest medieval map, the Mappa Mundi! Learn to operate locks on a daytrip on the Monmouth & Brecon canal; find out how to mill flour (the old fashioned way!) at Talgarth Mill; or how cheese is made at the Monkland Dairy.

Introducing
Pierson
Pierson and Aruna have worked their magic on several beautiful spaces for guests to enjoy. They both have a love of the great outdoors and dramatic wild landscapes – Aruna’s background in design has given her a great eye for colour and detail, and their houses are her canvas. They hope you enjoy staying.
We immediately fell in love with this beautiful house, which lends itself perfectly for a week or weekend with friends and family. The house is well equipped with everything needed for a great stay whatever the weather, stylish yet comfortable and unfussy. There is a choice of lovely seating and dining areas and plenty of space for cooking/eating relaxing as a group or in twos and threes, depending on the party. The garden is heavenly and there is an eating area outside as well as inside, which we loved.
