The Experience
There’s much activity to be had in this crossroads of wild Wales and England’s green and pleasant lands. White water for rafting, trails to hike or pedal along, canals and rivers on which to float and four National Trust properties within an hour’s drive. The cottage nestles into the setup of a working farm, so there are animals to meet and walks to be had right on the doorstep.
Return each evening to your relaxing little nook, just enough room for four with a charming vaulted living space warmed by a wood-burner (first lot of logs on the house) and a kitchen that’s ample for simple meals around the long wooden table. It’s a smart conversion that lets in lots of natural light, filling the high ceilings and whitewashed walls with brightness, whatever the weather’s doing.
Bring friends, family and the dog (they stay for free) and put the world to rights in front of the fire, on the patio or in the UFO-style shelter in the garden.

Location
The neighbourhood
Collfryn Farm sits between Gwyedd and Clwyd in Wales and the border with England – Shropshire and Cheshire just a few miles away. It’s true farming country, with gently undulating countryside and untreated roads with grass growing down the middle. The village is almost entirely encircled by water from three separate rivers, with a backdrop of the Berwyn Mountains. There’s a shop three miles from the house in the village, with a handful of restaurants and pubs. Welshpool is seven miles away. Attractions are outdoorsy: kayaking and gorge walking, hiking and horse riding.
Local points of interest from Christine Edwards
- Lake Vyrnwy, Powis Castle, Chirk Castle, Llanfair Light Railway, Montgomeryshire Canal, British Ironworks are just some of the days out on offer within half an hour of the cottages.
- The towns of Welshpool, Oswestry and Shrewsbury have lots to offer visitors from local produce markets, quirky shops, theatre, climbing walls, trampoline centres, plenty of cafes to relax in etc...
- There is plenty of wildlife to see at the cottages such as the family of hares, kingfisher, curlews, red kites, yellowhammers etc...
- Watch the organic Spring lambs in the surrounding fields or the cows grazing. Take the children to look at new born calves and lambs by arrangement.
- The nearest village of Llansantffraid has plenty of places for food. The Station Grill is a super restaurant. Indian and Fish Chip take aways too.

Introducing
Christine Edwards
The owners live in an imposing farmhouse over the road but are hands off when it comes to the cottages. Instead, the farm manager’s wife will greet you and be on call during your stay. Christine’s a jolly sort and immensely helpful – she can organise visits to see the animals and tell you about this first-prize winning organic farm.
