The Experience

Wind along the track up the hill to this ancient, whitewashed longhouse – you’ll feel miles from anywhere in the last wilderness in Wales and with views of the Cambrian mountains. You will enjoy the outdoor covered Dutch barn with firepit which overlooks a stream, so even on rainy days you can sit outdoors, or cosy up to the wood-burner inside, perhaps with a film.

There are gorgeous walks from the door, bring bikes for hilly rides, wander to the hide with your binoculars for a huge variety of birdlife – talks on these at the farm can be organised too (subject to availability). It’s a 10-minute walk to Llanwrtyd Wells (the smallest town in Britain) for stocking up and a good pub although local and organic produce can be delivered each Friday – just ask.

The river Irfon snakes along the southern boundary of the farm – spot otters, brown trout, Atlantic salmon.

Reviews

Just back from a wet weekend stay at this lovely accommodation. A very sensitive restoration of this characterful old farm dwelling. The modern additions (including the bonus of a very well equipped en-suite) all to a very high standard. The atmosphere of the dutch barn outside space was great, just a shame for us it was too wet and windy to enjoy it - something for next time. The location is ideal for a stroll into town, recommend the characterful Neuadd Arms Hotel for good food, beer, banter, and of course paraphernalia of being the headquarters of the Monster Raving Loony Party!

Jon, Bath

Rugged, peaceful, sensitively and respectfully renovated; rustic but with every comfort. Set in acres of wonderful hill farm walking countryside, but only a few minutes from both a terrific pub and a superb restaurent.

Moray, Berlin

Lofftwen is a remarkable building, brought back to life from it's disused state. Much like the site itself, Will and Jane have been lovingly rewilding the site. Keep your eyes peeled for all the animals and birds that call Lofftwen home. The longhouse is the perfect place to gather with friends and family to have a relaxing time in nature.

Location

The neighbourhood

There's plenty to keep you occupied here: an adjoining Dutch barn is great for outside dining, a barbecue or a game of boules. Llanwrtyd Wells has a great restaurant and tea rooms, The Drovers' Rest, The Neuadd Arms also serves good food and has its own microbrewery out the back. There are live music events at Chapel, adventures from stone skimming to ultra-marathons, canoeing and fishing.

Local points of interest from William Fulford

  • Stay in a restored 17th Century Longhouse that combines modern comforts with craft & history. The Longhouse retains its original medieval footprint but was ‘modernised’ in the 1600s. It has been substantially restored to reveal a host of original features.
  • Explore 320-acres of restoring wildlife habitat where 75 bird species, fox dens and badger setts live among 130,000 trees, wetland, heathland, and meadow. Otters live in the river Irfon on our southern boundary.
  • Hundreds of miles of rarely explored hiking trails and bridleways right from your doorstep. Canoeing & fishing on the rivers Irfon and Wye. Wild swimming 10 minutes’ away. Cycling and mountain biking to suit all levels and abilities.
  • Campfire cooking under some of the darkest skies in Europe on your very own firepit, while listening to the backdrop of a babbling stream and the singing of birds.
  • Regular Friday deliveries of organic and local fruit & veg on request. Despite feeling in the middle of nowhere, just a ten-minute walk to three pubs, a cafe, an award-winning restaurant, and local shops in Llanwrtyd Wells.
  • For rainy days cosy up to the large fireplace with wood burning stove, comfortable sofas, arm chairs, TV, DVDs, board games and mobile Wi-Fi.
