The Experience

Once a simple 19th-century cottage, now carefully restored and extended to create plenty of space and light for big gatherings of family or friends. The open-plan living room and kitchen has a high, beamed ceiling and there are comfortable seats for everybody with cushions and throws – lovely to sit in here with a book or to watch a film. A big picture window shows off distant views of the Cleddau Estuary.

Joiners in can help cook at the kitchen table or chat – all the gear you need is here, plus some basics for cooking and tasty Welsh cakes to greet you. Doors from here go out to the terrace with its tempting hot tub, seating area and barbecue – summer evenings will be gorgeous and the sunsets sublime. One bedroom and en suite shower room are on the ground floor and the others downstairs – all are very comfortable.

Join the coast path, visit Tenby for an iconic beach, good shops and places to eat, explore dramatic Pembrokeshire.

Very nice stay for our long weekend. Excellent accommodation for our family getaway. The location is great, very peaceful and the house has lovely views. The hot tub was great too! We would definitely come again!

The cottage and location were beautiful. It was equipped with all necessary amenities. We spent a lovely long weekend there and enjoyed the hot tub spa and outdoor bbq. The only problem we had was the disturbing noise from the upper room in the bunk bedroom downstairs when someone walked, but we also understand that it is a cottage. The hosts/staff were friendly and accommodating

We absolutely loved Alex’s gorgeous cottage. I can never tire of the view of the Cleddau; whatever the weather- sun, storm or rain. The area is peaceful and secluded, just what we needed. The dogs absolutely loved the grounds too. The hot tub has a beautiful view from it. Alex was responsive and popped around to help us with some suggestions of places to eat. We will be returning.

Location

The neighbourhood

The house shares a drive with two other houses but you'll still feel quite private. You're within walking distance (2 miles) of Cosheston for The Brewery Inn and excellent food – popular too so do book ahead. Pembrokeshire's wide sandy beaches are all 30 minutes by car, or treat yourself to afternoon tea at Lawrenny, 4 miles away. Stride out all day on the wonderful coastal path, bring a picnic.

Local points of interest from Patsy Seddon

We love the walk around the area of Carew Castle, which is also worth a visit and was first built in the 12th century and then rebuilt in Elizabethan times. We sometimes end up at the pub in Carew for a drink.
The Old Point House pub in Angle is recommended, as is the Stackpole Inn. At Angle Bay there is a great shack for crab and quiche sitting outside looking over the bay.
Pembroke Castle was where Henry 7th was born and is really interesting. The fish and chips at Rowlies in Pembroke are superb! Also there is a good delicatessen her called Wise Buys, and we recommend the butcher Mott.
Our favourite beaches are Freshwater West for a wonderful windy walk, and Broad Haven South which are 20 mins away. There are great rock pools at Freshwater West, either end of the beach is good for exploring, and it’s a good beach for surfing.
Manorbier Beach is good for a walk along the coastal path to your left to Skrinkle Haven, which is an adorable tiny beach. Freshwater East is quite touristy, and Tenby is really busy but lovely for a day out. Barafundle is very popular too.
There is a lovely golf course at Pembroke Dock overlooking the haven and cheap! A trip to Narbeth with its shops, art galleries and delis is good on a wet day.

Introducing

Patsy Seddon

This corner of Cosheston is close to Patsy’s heart – the founder of the Phase Eight clothing company grew up in Leward Cottage and she designed and built Curlew House next door for her own family. She renovated Leward after her father passed away, adding the living room and kitchen, and both spaces are filled with personal art, books and games. Patsy has loved coming to Curlew for her own holidays and now splits her time between France and London.
