The Experience
You’ll feel free as a bird bowling down narrow lanes to photographer Jo and sculptor John’s magical spot. Wild swimmers can jump in the millpond or nip down a sea pebble path to an (almost) private beach. You’re on the coastal path so walkers will be happy, near arty Newport for galleries and cafés, you can hire kayaks in Cardigan Bay or take a ferry to Skomer Island. Return to your converted 18th-century cart shed (perfect for 2 – 3 grown ups but 4 can fit in) with postbox red doors and a stone seat in the garden by the waterfall and pond – great fun to picnic out here, or on your own balcony with sea views. Inside is upside down (living space on first floor, bedrooms with Welsh slate floors and underfloor heating and teeny but perfectly-formed wet rooms each downstairs). The hall is lined with books – pop a pound in the charity box – the open, airy living space has wooden floors, original art and sculpture, a ducky kitchen that could win a prize for ‘craftmanship in a small space’, Afghan and Tibetan rugs, antiques, squishy sofa and a big wood-burner. This won’t suit people who want bustle, it’s a place for curious souls, dreamers, artists, peace-seekers.

We returned to Felin Hescwm for another incredible stay. The property is immaculate, the location is magical. It boosts a cove 100m down a footpath, which is fantastic for watching sunsets, swimming & taking the coastal path 2km to Dinas & the local pub. We highly recommend.

Felin Hescwm: what an absolute gem of a place! We spent a lovely week self catering surrounded by the most beautiful views and garden. What Jo and John have achieved with their garden is truly wonderful- we spent much time exploring it and marvelling at the thought that has gone into creating such interest. We loved the fact that the garden leads directly to the lovely bay (which was never busy ). The house itself was well catered for. We enjoyed having breakfast on our little balcony whilst looking out to sea and spotting wildlife. The location was great and we did many coastal walks.

We thoroughly enjoyed our two weeks at Hescwm Mill, as did our ageing Lab, Barney. Jo and John are marvellous hosts and made us feel so "at home" from the moment we arrived. The Mill itself is lovely and has more than we needed, only surpassed by the beautiful gardens where we spent hours reading, lounging and barbecueing. Hecwm Bay is a marvellous spot for swimming or just paddling in the sea and being right on the coastal path was a great start for some of our walks.

Waking up, opening the bedroom barn doors, seeing the waterfall. Making breakfast from the generous welcome pack with honey from the garden. Sitting on the little balcony and looking across the field to the sea. Taking a guided stroll round a beautifully crafted garden with flowers, trees and seats, enchanted by the ponds and the cove. Inside just as beautiful and relaxing, rich rugs, ancient but modern. This is a visit to somewhere magic, and a privilege to share. Friendly Jo and John will share their knowledge or give you privacy. The narrow road may deter some, but remoteness the reward

We (3 adults and a dog) have just come back from 2 weeks at Felin Hescwm. What a fabulous place to stay! The location is perfect, the gardens are absolutely stunning, and the property itself, though small, is immaculate and very well equipped. Highlights were walking the coastal path, horse riding, electric mountain biking, seeing the puffins on Skomer, picking mussels on the beach and sampling the local restaurants. John & Jo are excellent hosts, sorting out a small niggle with the heating with minimal fuss. We hope they continue here for many years to come. Ali, Alex, James & Bee

We have been staying at exclusively Sawday’s places for our holidays since 2000. Every place has been fantastic. Felin Hescwm sits above them on all levels of course but it hits a level few hit: Do I want to live here? A resounding yes for Felin Hescwm. We want to live here. The foundation, the Pembrokeshire Coast, is a great place to start. Now add in calm, relaxed hosts who have obviously tons of experience with hosting a self catering property= a perfect location for a perfect property. I wish the hosts well for the future but if you ever want to sell please contact us!

A very special place, in a wild and romantic setting down a little cove by the sea. The friendly owners have done a tremendous job at restoring an old granary (the cottage) and the whole grounds surrounding the watermill and their own house. The garden, with its ponds, waterfalls and many brooks is a pure delight for the eyes, for the ears and for the mind. The inside of the cottage is neat and cosy, decorated with good taste and passion by connoisseurs of the art. Thanks to Jo and John for their great accommodation.

Just back from another fabulous stay at Felin Hescwn. This is our third return trip and we were not disappointed. The cottage was as immaculate as it was back in 2019 . Jo & John were perfect guests and the scenery is to die for. Your own private beach (well for 90% of the time) . Visiting seals in the bay and mussel foraging what more could you ask for. Unfortunately we kept missing the tides for the latter activity, but that just means we have an excuse to visit again. Not that we need one! Sarita, Martin & Lulu (the dog)

Our second magical stay this year at this beautifully peaceful cottage - we know in our hearts we'll be back again! The lush gardens with the constant sound of trickling water are amazing enough, but the little cove and cliff walks right on the doorstep combine to make it one of the best holiday rentals ever. If you want to get away from the world and connect with nature, this is the place. In addition to the amazingly comfortable beds, the high quality kitchenware and the super efficient woodburner, John and Jo are the perfect hosts - friendly and helpful, yet quietly discreet. Love it!

Felin Hescwm is a stunning place to stay. John and Jo have created a dwelling full of beauty and interest set in an incredible garden - the stream diverted to create so many pockets of delight as it winds through to the cove. Having the sea on our doorstep made this holiday perfect! Swimming every day whatever the weather, often alone with the green hills behind and open water ahead, was wonderful. We even shared a swim with a seal one day! Beautiful coastal walks for cooler weather, and good places to eat a short drive away. John and Jo are perfect hosts and looked after us very well.

The most enchanting place you could imagine! You must stay here if you love peace and beauty and nature. The cottage has been restored, using local materials, with exquisite attention to detail, and has everything provided for your comfort. Beautiful, romantic gardens are a joy to explore, and the sound of running water adds to the magic. They lead to a delightful cove, and on your way to the beach there are imaginative seating areas where you can enjoy the view. Coastal walks on your doorstep are outstanding, and we also adored Porthgain. And we loved meeting Jo and John and their cats!

I don't want to tell you about Felin Hescwm. I don't want to tell you because if I do you will all want to go there, it will become booked up for years and I may not be able to go back! If you want a quiet, calm relaxing holiday then this is the place for you. The cottage is delightful and the owners welcoming. The best part is not the short stroll to the beach and the coastal path, but the garden. The garden is full of the sound of rushing water. There are little streams crossed by stone bridges and fantastic paths to walk along and explore the fabulous garden and woods. An enchanting place.

This is an absolutely idyllic place, hidden away down the narrowest of lanes. The property is very charming, spotlessly clean, surrounded by the most beautiful gardens created by John and Jo. There is a quiet pebbly cove at the bottom of the path, perfect for sunsets and stargazing and for access to the coast path. We were particularly entertained by a baby badger foraging within a few feet of the cottage balcony. A perfect place to escape to.

If you want peace and to truly get away from it all this is the most perfect place to come. You are forced to slow your pace of life, immersed in nature, beautiful gardens surrounded by birds, flowers and the continuous trickle of the stream. John and Jo are brilliant hosts and every detail has been thought of. The house is great for a two couples or a family with older children. Well equipped and very comfortable. The views are spectacular from every window. Location is great for beach days and coastal walks, trips into nearby towns and eating out in some lovely pub

After a rather hair-raising drive down tiny high hedged lanes we found ourselves at the Mill. The cottage is so lovingly and beautifully restored and maintained by Jo and John and their team of local craftsmen. Hugely comfortable and spotlessly clean with all you need for a totally restorative holiday. You can walk through lush garden paths or take the little public path to the cove. About a 5 minute walk … and the cove which is sheltered and quiet. Joyous!

We came across this place on a walk during our stay in the area last year and thought it would be a lovely place to stay, and it certainly was! Beautiful location, accommodating hosts, tasteful and artistic conversion of an old building, lovely walk through the garden down to the cove and lots of other walks from the door. What more can we say? We will be back!

An absolutely delightful cottage that has been lovingly restored to perfection and to such a high standard. It has everything you need and more, and Jo & John have thought of everything to make your stay as comfortable as possible. We will miss sleeping to the sound of the waterfall, hearing the owl at night and watching the fox in the back field at dusk. It is a little slice of tranquility in a perfect location for exploring, not to mention the amazing cove at the bottom of the garden. A true find xx

Local points of interest from Jo Reid & John Peck
- This is a simple yet luxurious cottage, sleep in Egyptian cotton sheets, under down duvets, to the sound of the waterfall. The perfect place for Bird watchers, Dolphin/Seal spotters, wild flower enthusiasts, Artists/Photographers and of course, You.
- Escape to this idyll, and forsake your car. 150 yds down our wooded path to Aberbach. The cove has everything, cliffs for scrambling, beautiful multi coloured pebbles, sand, rock pools, mussel beds and caves, and sometimes stunning beach art, have a go!
- This area offers a network of footpaths. 1st the magnificent coast path, which is backed up by small bus services, so you can choose to walk only one way. 2nd take one of the many paths and walk up into the Preseli hills behind us, simply breathtaking.
- Wonderful to relax in the garden, listening to the waterfall next to the old water mill. Explore the woodlands round the mill pond, and find the stone seats under the pines, looking out to sea, one of the great places for a sundowner and BBQ.
- Bring your own canoe, and tether it in the garden by the beach. Paddle round Fishguard bay, safe from the main tide rip. Explore inaccessible coves, inlets and caves. Be afloat amongst the sea birds and seals, pure magic in the early or late light.
- Further afield are boat trips to the islands, ruined castles, standing stones, bluestone quarry (for stone henge?), music/arts festivals, restaurants, cafes, galleries. Bessie's famous pub and the Bluestone brewery for a drink on a Cwm Gwaun walk.

Felin Hescwm is just divine. Its location is magical, facilities are second to none and John and Jo make you feel so welcome in their awesome garden. I swam in the sea every day (a whole 2 mins walk) and saw dolphins in the bay. We loved it. Diolch yn fawr
