The Experience
Come for a good dollop of nature, walks in the hills, paddles or swims in the river and big skies. Return to simple, rather French-looking interiors with bumpy whitewashed walls, two sitting rooms, lots of books about local history and this pretty patch of Wales, a warming log-burner and comfy sofas. If it rains and you’re stuck indoors you’ll still feel happy. The kitchen is delightfully authentic with a big wooden table and plenty of space for everybody to join in with cooking. Sometimes you can buy eggs and vegetables from the owners next door.
Bedrooms, one on the first floor, two on the second, have very well-dressed beds, rugs on the floors, sweet fabrics and interesting art. Outside is a courtyard garden with another big table for long summer lunches or suppers round the firepit and barbecue. Children will adore charging up and down to the water, and you can play pétanque, or doze under a parasol.
Walk into town in 10 minutes.

Location
The neighbourhood
This is the spot for getting out of doors. Walking is superb – climbers will be beetling up Blorenge or Sugar Loaf for superb views or heading a bit further to the Brecon Beacons or Black Mountains. Cyclists will love it all too. You're spoilt for good places to shop or eat in town – it's a foodie destination with a famous food festival in September. Explore Llanthony Priory or Hay-on-Wye.
Local points of interest from Hayley Caradoc-Hodgkins
- You are 10 minutes walk from the bustling town of Abergavenny. Why not visit the daily indoor market where you can pick up some local produce or shop for some antiques. Visit the castle ruins, before grabbing an ice cream from the famous Shepards.
- A visit to Llanthony Priory is a must. Set in bucolic countryside and steeped in history. The children will love to run around the grounds, and we love the pub set in the underground vaults. Each season it has something new to offer!
- Abergavenny is surrounded by three mountains. Each is different and has walks on offer for all abilities. You can take a picnic up the Sugarloaf, take a dip on at Keepers Pond on top of the Blorange, or hike to the top of the Skirrid.
- Our favourite local restaurant is the Black Bear in Usk. This beautiful old pub, now serves cosy and seasonal food, with a great wine menu. Why not take a wonder around their veg patch, and stop off for a wild swim on your way back.
- Hay On Wye is world famous for its second hand book shops. Approx 45 minutes drive from Little Mill, it offers plenty of great antique shopping, spots to eat and the drive past Hay Bluff on route is awe inspiring.
- No visit is complete without a visit to the Angel Bakery shop Popty. You can pick up a loaf of freshly baked sourdough, wonderful pastries, and exceptional cakes. They also offer local cheeses, a selection of wine and beer, as well as other deli staples.

Introducing
Hayley Caradoc-Hodgkins
Hayley, her husband and two children moved here from London some years ago. They've worked hard to renovate the mill, doing a lot of the work themselves. They're a family-oriented, outdoorsy pair with a love of good food, hosting and slow living. Hayley worked for Elle Decoration which shines through in the interiors.
Rustic, understated, and totally charming! Little Mill has been lovingly restored and champions slow living which is a true reflection of its owners who are there as much or as little as you need. When you do wish to venture out, the property is perfectly situated to explore a renowned market town.
