You’ll feel cosy in here surrounded by ancient stone walls, with a wood-burner belting out the heat and a squashy sofa to flop into – take some good books to make it perfect but you’ll find a TV, DVDs and a sound system too. A little kitchen has all you need for holiday cooking and the dining area has a farmhouse table which sits by a sunny window. It’s rustic rather than swish.

A sweet cottage garden outside the French doors has a lawn for lazing and stunning bucolic views – on a clear day, all the way to Cardigan Bay. Walk through fields to the river Erch where you can paddle about or fish for brown trout – just ask about permits.

A short drive will take you to the Snowdonia National Park where you can walk and cycle your socks off or take part in activity adventures. The sandy beaches of Hell’s Mouth, Abersoch and Llanbedrog are close, so pack up a picnic and head for the sea. You’ll be glad to come back to this lovely, very quiet, spot.
