The Experience

This charming whitewashed cottage is one of five on the Wern Estate, on the edge of Snowdonia National Park. You let yourself in using the key safe, but housekeeper Kerrie will pop in during your visit and is on hand if needed – ask about having a home-cooked meal waiting when you arrive and dine in the conservatory looking out over the gardens.

Snuggle next to the wood-burner in the sitting room with a book or play games while you indulge in the generous welcome hamper, which includes homemade cake, jam, Welsh cakes and biscuits as well as fresh ground coffee, tea and an artisan loaf. Pick your own herbs from the garden and cook up a storm in the farmhouse kitchen or use the barbecue on the patio when it’s balmy. Immerse yourself into the hot tub under the stars before bed!

A pretty stream runs alongside the house, and at the back there’s a secret garden with inspiring views across a private lake to the surrounding hills of the Llyn Peninsula. Walk to the beach at Black Rock Sands in 40 minutes, explore the nearby seaside towns of Criccieth and Porthmadog and have a fascinating day out at Portmeirion, designed in the style of an Italian village (a seven-mile drive).

This is a wonderful cottage, with a fabulous interior, which is stylish yet cosy. The location is secluded and peaceful. We loved it and didn’t want to leave. We hope to return again soon. Thank you.

Lovely, peaceful escape, but with plenty to do only short drives away. The kind of place you want to hunker down in and enjoy simple, family time. Excellent accommodation, spotlessly clean. Everything you could need included. Hot tub was great. Would return.

Charlotte, Acton

The cottage was a perfect place to escape for a few day with the family, beautiful area & a very cozy cottage. Would recommend to anyone.

We had a wonderful stay at Pont Faen. It was beautiful and peaceful and the host has great attention for detail. The house is beautifully decorated and the welcome pack and flowers were really appreciated after a long journey. The sound of running water was very calming and it was so lovely to be surrounded by wildlife. The old oaks in the area are beautiful as is the area surrounding the lake. We would love to go again.

Thanks we had a great stay. Lovely cottage, great interior. Kerrie was excellent - especially when we needed a vet after our dog got badly stung. We'll be back. Have a great season.

Cottage was excellent. Very cosy and you could tell that care and effort had been put in to the decoration and interior. Heating worked perfectly. Was a pleasure coming back there after a day out. Service was excellent as well from the guide doc to Kerrie helping us with more logs and answering our questions promptly.

Sam

A perfectly delightful cottage in a lovely setting. I wouldn't hesitate to return and highly recommend.

An amazing secluded location with facilities exactly as described.

Jimmy, Church Broughton

Beautiful part of the world. Lovely cottage which was beautifully clean. Stunning environment and we loved the fishing!

Tamar, Leeds

This is a lovely place to spend a week or a few days. Incredibly quiet and peaceful, carefully and sensitively restored Welsh longhouse with a pretty stream and footpath running through the grounds and a well stocked picturesque trout fishing lake in the adjacent field. The hot tub is a plus, a little complicated to get the hang of at first but easy once you’ve done it once. The soaps and shampoos were a lovely addition as was the welcome basket and the local information. Thanks again, we hope to come back some time soon if you’ll have us of course!

Tish, London

Cosy cottage in very quiet location. Beautiful surroundings. Very clean and comfortable. We would return in a heartbeat.

Alison, Matlock

We had a lovely stay in this home from home with everything that you could possibly need. We look forward to going again. You must visit Black Rock Sands stunning beach with amazing views. We also visited Porthdinllaen and Nefyn Bay beautiful walks along the coast. We were lucky to see seals. If looking for Hikes We did Snowdonia views are breathtaking from the top. There are also smaller hikes around Snowdonia so much choice. Beautiful part of Wales

Tracy, Little Berkhamstead

Really beautifully appointed cottage, with a very generous welcome basket. Particularly liked the provision of beach towels as well as bath towels. Tips for other travellers Book early for Dylan’s in Criccieth, and for The Potted Lobster in Abersoch. Make time to hike to the Watkin Pool for a wild swim halfway up Snowdon, head to Black Rock Sands after 4/4:30pm as you can get onto the beach for free. Chippy van is on the beach on Fridays. Walking in Newburgh Forest on Anglesey ended in an epic beach. Puffin Island boat trip is a highlight. Read the Welsh Princes trilogy before arrival.

Calley, London

Excellent all round. From the time of booking to general communication and welcome on arrival. A top standard cottage with the added bonus of a wood fired hot tub. Heaven.

Melanie, Whitland

Paul, Chipping Norton

We had a perfect relaxing stay in Pont Faen! We loved everything about the cottage - it’s private layout, well designed rooms, beautiful views. It had everything you need to cook a meal or BBQ, play a game, read a book or chill in a hot tub. Communication with our housekeeper was quick and efficient. Thank you Tamar, would definitely recommend Pont Faen cottage!

Location

The neighbourhood

The Llyn Peninsula is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Welsh Coast Path runs around it, passing coves, beaches, churches and the remains of Iron Age forts. The Victorian seaside resort of Criccieth, six minutes’ drive away, has the remains of a 13th-century castle, as well as independent shops and good restaurants – try Dylan’s, a seafood restaurant in an art deco building facing the sandy beach.

Local points of interest from Wern Holiday Cottages

  • Porthmadog, with it's marina and shops, is just 5 minutes away.
