The Experience
Walk straight into a cheerful hall with a bench for booting and de-booting, cupboard for outdoor gear and a carved oak coffer. The sitting room is large and light with a humungous fireplace housing a wood-burner, lots of books, a rustic wooden table, underfloor heating and a woven rug from the Welsh Woollen Mill – views soar from each window. History lovers will adore the ancient cruck beams revealed and cooks will be happy with the well-designed galley kitchen.
Upstairs are two simple bedrooms with cosy Welsh blankets, antiques and mesmerising views; the warm shower room is neat-as-a-pin. In summer you’ll be in the front garden with a lawn for lounging, a table and chairs for long light evenings and a gate straight onto the path for Cader Idris – serious walkers will be delighted.
It’s a tranquil spot: birds twitter, the river rushes by behind you, Welsh black cattle and sheep plod about in the fields.

Location
The neighbourhood
There are wonderful walks from the door and you'll find guides in the cottage. You can also join the Mary Jones walk which has a brave history – the whole area is steeped in legends and stories. Tywyn is a 20-minute drive, an attractive town with shops and a huge sandy beach. There are castles galore, Dolgellau for The Mawddach Trail and a ruined abbey, Snowdonia National Park and Tal-y-Llyn lake.
Local points of interest from Kevin and Marilyn Cullinan
- Cader Idris, Llanfihangel y Pennant path. Step outside our garden onto this path leading to Cader Idris, a mountain of legend. The name in Welsh means 'the chair of Idris'. Its highest point is Pen y Gadair, with the magical lake 'Llyn Cau near its summit.
- Castell y Bere, wild and remote. Evoking the spirit of Wales' native castles. Built by Prince Llewelyn the Great in 1221. View our cottage in its picturesque valley from its jagged rocky outcrop and absorb its wonderful atmosphere and distinctive features.
- Craig yr Aderyn [Birds' Rock] With its abundance of bird life it has nesting sites of cormorants and red billed choughs. Suitable for walkers and climbers, set in an impressive historic landscape. Catch a glimpse of Cardigan Bay from its summit. Stunning!
- Talyllyn Heritage Steam Railway runs for just over 7 miles from Tywyn to Nant Gwernol, buried deep in the mountains above Abergynolwyn, the nearest station to Glan Cader. Enjoy the journey's spectacular scenery and its friendly cafe with homemade treats.
- At Glan Cader, you can experience the sea as well as mountains. Beaches are within easy reach. A selection of family and dog friendly beaches are set in lovely locations such as Barmouth, Aberdyfi, Tywyn, Fairbourne with information on many at our cottage.
- After exploring paths from your doorstep, such as the Mari Jones Walk, you will deserve to unwind and nourish yourself with Food and Drink! Tyn y Cornel Hotel nestled on the banks of Talyllyn Lake offers a high standard of cuisine and various refreshments.

Introducing
Kevin and Marilyn Cullinan
Marilyn (whose first language is Welsh) and Kevin are both retired. They bought this Grade II listed cottage in 2020 and have done a wonderful job of restoring it and rescuing lots of architectural features hidden behind ugly panels. They come here with their own family as often as they can, hence the homely, comfortable feel with Welsh furnishings and fabrics.
What a wonderful spot! Views soar from every direction, you're completely immersed in nature, walks are sublime and sunny days will see you out in the garden. Much birdlife so bring binoculars – even nesting red kites. Indoors is very cosy indeed and filled with lovely things. It will be an absolute pleasure to stay here.
