From the road the cottage looks small but it is far from it. Whitewashed walls give a bright feel, comfy sofas surround a knockout wood-burner in the grand fireplace, there’s a desk for working, a separate dining area and lots of books, DVDs and games.

The kitchen, with a fresh modern feel, is just off the dining room so cooks will still feel part of the action and they’ll find all the kit they need plus plenty of prepping space. You’re left a plentiful welcome basket of tasty local things including Welsh biscuits and crisps and locally-made jams. Upstairs bedrooms are at separate ends of the cottage – all with organic cotton bed linen, Welsh blankets and views over the garden; one has a glimpse of the sea.

The sheltered natural garden has mature trees, uneven ground, hammocks and a fire bowl, the birdsong is joyous and as night falls the stars, and the bats, appear. This is a Dark Sky Area so on clear nights you’re in for a treat.
