The Experience

With the mighty river Conwy rolling past at the end of the garden and the village of Betws-y-Coed just a 25-minute walk away, you’re perfectly placed to pull on your hiking boots and explore the magnificence of Snowdonia National Park from this cosy cottage.

And cosy it is. From the two snug double bedrooms there are incredible views down the valley to the mountain Moel Siabod beyond and a sense of the cottage’s 200-year-old history is sunk into every nook and cranny (mind your head on the low passageways). Although there’s a house nearby, the feeling is of complete privacy.

This is Wales so come prepared for the elements. Should the weather gods smile on you, the garden is full of birdsong and bees buzzing, a barbecue area and a fantastic patio right by the river. If you want to hunker down indoors, there are plenty of games and books (and a TV) in the homely sitting room as well as a squishy sofa and toasty wood-burning stove.

You should know

  • Double beds in each room could be a squeeze for those used to larger beds
  • The garden is enclosed but the river nearby is fast and furious so you'll need to be very careful

Reviews

A lovely cottage in beautiful surroundings, clearly restored with love. The large garden was perfect for our dog, and we enjoyed peaceful mornings with coffee by the river. Ideal location for exploring Snowdonia, with comfy beds and plenty of hot water, and the kitchen was well-equipped. We'd highly recommend this place.

Location

The neighbourhood

Walk to Betws-y-Coed (30 mins as bridge closed) through gorgeous countryside. Eat at Ty Gwyn, a 16th-century coaching inn overlooking the river 10 min-walk. The Tu Hwnt I'r Bont Tearooms in Llanrwst (five-min drive) does great cakes. Visit Gwydir Castle (six-min drive), one of Wales's finest Tudor houses, and Bodnant's stunning gardens (25-min drive). Zip World is a 5-min walk and an 18-hole golf course with riverside walk, 30 minutes.

Local points of interest from George Smith

  • Out of the cottage turn left and the across the road there is a footpath that goes all the way to Llanrwst through forestry. The best walk is into the village, however, the bridge is closed for repairs.
  • Enjoy walks along the river.
  • Walking distance to the popular tourist village of Betws Y Coed.

Introducing

George Smith

George and Alice are keen to support the local area and have sympathetically restored the cottage with the help of local craftsmen using traditional methods. There's a detailed welcome guide and someone is always close at hand should you need help or advice.
