The Experience
Indoors you’re enveloped in a forest of locally grown Douglas fir, kept cosy with underfloor heating from an air source heat pump and, if you need an extra blast, a wood-burner in the open-plan sitting room. There’s plenty of space with a high, beamed ceiling, a nifty kitchen to one side and French doors to a good-sized terrace area. Here you’ll find a barbecue and a large table for al fresco meals in the safely enclosed garden – lovely to watch the sun set over the hills while you toast marshmallows over the fire pit.
Local shortbread and a tea tray are waiting to welcome you and supplies of sustainable local wood are endless – the hot tub takes about three hours to heat up. Walks from the door are glorious and you can pop into town to stock up with local food.
Bedrooms (one downstairs, one on the mezzanine) have smart robes and local soaps in the modern shower rooms. E-bikes can be hired and there’s a secure lock-up.

We think you'll love
- Strolling into Melrose for independent shops, visiting the wonderful gardens at Harmony House (NTS), having afternoon tea at Apples for Jam
- Striding up the Eildon Hills from the front door, rewarding yourself with a spell in the hot tub
- Snuggling in with the merry wood-burner when the weather is foul, listening to music from the Bose Bluetooth speaker, playing board games or watching a film
You should know
- The mezzanine bedroom has a heavy curtain separating it from the main sitting room
- There is an almost identical log cabin next door which is screened but you need to keep the noise down at night
- You won't find any basics in the cupboards so if you plan to cook as soon as you arrive you'll need to bring everything you need

Local points of interest from Rob Martin
- You're a 15 minute stroll or a couple of minutes drive from the charming town centre of Melrose with its array of independant shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants.
- Your cabin is located right at the foot of the Eildon Hills. Enjoy watching and listening to nature from the garden or take a hike up to one of the three summits where the 360 degree views are spectacular.
- Melrose has a butcher, two bakeries, a green-grocer and a wine shop plus some fabulous cafes, restaurants and takeaways so you are sure to eat well during your stay!
- Visit some historic buildings - the South of Scotland is brimming with magnificent stately homes and castles, ancient abbeys and a multitude of towers, follies and iron age forts to explore.
- Spend a day fly-fishing for Atlantic salmon on the river Tweed. While you're there you have a great chance of spotting a variety of other wildlife including Kingfishers, Otters, Ospreys and Sand-Martins!
- Swim in a local loch for an invigorating way to explore some wild places. Or hire a paddle board if you prefer to stay dry!
