The Experience
The last couple of miles are beautifully scenic with views overlooking the border hills south of Hawick including Rubers Law and the Cheviots. The cabin sits in a sheltered position on the owners’ Croft (cleverly designed not to ensure privacy) and all you’ll hear when you step out of the car is a cacophony of birdsong. Inside is filled with light from the numerous windows and glazed doors onto the wrap-around decking.
The open plan kitchen and living area has a log-burner at its heart and on rainy days you’ll feel lovely and warm sitting in here with a book or maps to plan your next outing. The mezzanine master bedroom has a handmade bed, natural wool duvet and pillows and lovely views for your morning cup of tea. There’s a bunk room downstairs for children – even big ones.
Find handmade soaps in the bathroom, basics for cooking in the cupboards and a barbecue out on the decking facing wildlife ponds and paddocks.

This stunning log cabin has all the mod cons you could possibly need but in a traditional cosy country cottage style. Set in a beautiful rural location only a couple of miles from Hawick, where only the sound of birdsong breaks the silence. New owners Laura and David have made every effort to make you feel welcome, from the delicious homegrown fresh fruit and homemade jam in the welcome pack to cupboards and drawers full of everything you need to make this cottage a home from home. A little bit of heaven on earth, I can definitely recommend Fiddle Hill Cottage and we’ll certainly be back!

What a wonderful place to stay, we have been so relaxed here and we love all the thoughtful touches. Outside has been our own edition of Springwatch - the young owl growing up, invasive squirrels, greedy magpies, young birds and an unperturbed deer.

Fiddle Hill was like a calm oasis throughout my visit. The cottage has a lovely aura and I could sit all day on the terrace observing and listening to the garden birds. The hosts, Laura and David were very welcoming.

Location
The neighbourhood
You're in lush green countryside for brilliant walks and cycles with plenty of routes straight from the door. Visit woollen mills in Hawick (2 miles) for cashmere, The Damascus Drum, a fairtrade café and second-hand bookshop which also sells Anatolian rugs, and The Borders Distillery for tastings, whisky tours and a shop. Denholm is 6.5 miles and has a wonderful antiques centre and restaurant.
Local points of interest from David & Laura Addison
- Excellent bird watching, wildlife and wild flowers can be viewed over the pond through the cottage windows. Wild birds, deer, hares, badger and owls are frequent visitors to the Croft.
- Fabulous walks, cycling and Border views from the door in every direction. Borders Abbey Way is 1/4 mile from Fiddle Hill, this can join up with St. Cuthberts Way, taking you all the way to Lindisfarne. Ebikes are available to help explore further afield
- Seeking a culture fix? Take a day trip to Abbotsford House, home of Sir Walter Scott, with lovely gardens. Ruined abbeys in Melrose, Kelso and Jedburgh. Distillery, Cashmere mills and the Textile Towerhouse Museum in Hawick, just 2 miles down the hill.
- Mid way between 7 Stanes mountain biking at Glentres near Innerleithen and Newcastleton. Great local road cycling, for example through the Ettrick and Yarrow Valleys. Ebikes are available for guests use.
- Horse racing and Common Ridings in all the local towns throughout the summer season. Go golfing on one of the many Border golf courses, take a stroll through Hawick's beautiful Wilton Lodge Park, or try some wild swimming just 4 mins walk from the cottage.
- Lots of great hills to climb - Rubbislaw, the Eildons and many more. A dog walkers paradise, come rain or shine.

Introducing
David & Laura Addison
New owners Laura and David live in the croft. They travelled around Europe with their work for many years and have now settled here - David grew up on a farm in Northumberland, so the Croft is a welcome return to the Border hills that they love. They are friendly and welcoming, with an aim to live sustainably and on hand if you need any help or advice.
First visit to Fiddle Hill Cottage, what a treat! Loved it! So relaxing. Loved the food tray with all the fresh produce. The views from the bed were beautiful as we were here in Autumn. Will definitely recommend!
