Bemersyde House

We loved our stay at Bemersyde. We were there for a Christmas holiday and it couldn't have been more cozy and inviting. We loved exploring the grounds, cooking in the spacious kitchen and sitting by the fireplaces. Margaret was friendly and very helpful when we had questions (we had many...). We also took a fishing lesson with Ian who was great and entertained us all with his witty banter. We will certainly be back, hopefully in summertime, to really enjoy the beautiful gardens.

I loved the acres of gardens and grounds that are full of wildflowers and picnicking spots. I felt like I was stepping back in time when entering the estate - there is so much history!

A perfect stay in a beautiful house. It is incredibly spacious with fascinating history and art in every room. Every aspect was in excellent working order with the whole house impeccably clean, fully equipped and lots of activities inside the house (table football, table tennis etc) and outdoors including great walks with the river close by. The housekeeper Margaret gave a very warm welcome and provided lots of information about the house and the surroundings.

The perfect venue for our family gathering. Its large, elegantly furnished reception rooms, exceptionally comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen and pervading sense of history suited everyone. The 6 children, aged 5-14 played endless games of hide and seek, table tennis and pool, whilst their parents and grandparents enjoyed the deep sofas, lovely paintings, open fires, beautiful views and local walks..as well as the odd game of tennis. Margaret’s warm welcome and briefing put everyone in the mood, as did her prolific supply of jams, chutneys and honey from the estate…a memorable holiday.

A thoroughly enjoyable stay in a house full of history and character, not to mention the fascinating art collection. Margaret’s cornucopic vegetable garden was a huge feature of our stay, and she was both accommodating and readily available when needed. Last but not least, Ada’s breakfasts were sumptuous and are highly recommended!

A totally fascinating place that gives you the sense of its history from the moment you walk in the main door - at times you feel like a Time Lord walking through a door from a bedroom in a Peel Tower built in 1535 into a large light filled Drawing Room in the West Wing built in 18thC - endless garden and grounds to walk in and explore.
